Race 5 at Scone Racecourse on Saturday the 13th of May 2023.

The Ortensia Stakes is a Listed race held at Scone Racecourse and is run over 1100 metres. It is run under quality handicap conditions. The total prize money is $160,000 this year.

Ortensia Stakes 2023 Preview

Track: Good Weather: Fine

An intriguing race where luck in running will be crucial. Malkovich had favours in the run but kicked clear to win fresh and can do the same here. Quantico has an explosive turn of foot and is capable of winning when things go its way. Andermatt is hard to catch but can show up when on song while Dehorned Unicorn has to be respected returning off a length break. Talbragar brings in the country from and must be respected with the good draw and light weight. Plenty of hopes here.

Ortensia Stakes 2023 Runner by Runner

1. Eleven Eleven (9)

Can win but well overdue and would like to see it find the top of the podium again before considering.

2. Malkovich (5)

Excellent return when leading and beating a handy field. Did have favours in the run that day and might not get that here but has to be respected regardless.

3. Quantico (3)

Hard to beat and one of the better bets of the day. Absolute bomb on dry footing and will take beating against these. More than deserving of favourite.

4. Athelric (1)

Maps well from barrier 1 but is due for another win and has been mixing its form this prep. Leaning to others.

5. Andermatt (11)

Hard to catch and probably wants the ground to be wetter. Tricky draw and a few things to oppose.

6. Zethus (12) – SCRATCHED

7. Dehorned Unicorn (6)

Might just surprise these fresh. Gets a gun draw and was excellent last prep. Well weighted. Keep an eye on the betting.

8. Dubbo Wanderer (10)

Can’t have.

9. Sneaky Paige (7)

Prefer in something easier.

10. Authentic Jewel (8)

Finds it hard to win and might find these too slick fresh.

11. Talbragar (2)

Solid chance in this. Brings in some strong form, light weight and maps well. Wouldn’t shock.

12. Le Melody (4)

Keep an eye on betting. Nice return win and is versatile in terms of its running patterns.
