Manikato Stakes 2023 Race Details
Race 8 at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Saturday the 28th October 2023.
The Manikato Stakes is a Group 1 1200 metre weight-for-age race held by the Moonee Valley Racing Club. Previously run at Moonee Valley in October on the Friday night before the Cox Plate it is now run on Cox Plate day. The total prizemoney this year is $2,000,000.

Manikato Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Fine
Seven have accepted for the Manikato Stakes and it’s no surprise to see Imperatriz a deep odds on favourite following two breathtaking wins this preparation. She came from last to win the McEwen here first up, then sailed away from impressive subsequent winner Asfoora late in the Moir. The rest are seemingly in a battle for second.
Manikato Stakes 2023 Runner by Runner
1. The Inferno
Ran well here first up in the Moir. Can’t see him beating Imperatriz but is in the mix for the placings.
2. Buenos Noches
Good winner of the Show County first up then ran a luckless third in The Shorts. Was back and wide in The Everest on a day where it was impossible to make ground out wide. This looks a much better set up with B Shinn on.
3. Uncommon James
Oakleigh Plate winner in the Autumn. I liked his run here first up in the Moir where he was strong late. Blinkers appeared to backfire last start at Caulfield and it’s no surprise to see them come off. If Imperatriz is to rate down for what ever reason he is one who could pick up the pieces.
4. Jigsaw
Was a winning machine last prep. Market risked him first up down the straight. Much harder race but back around a bend suits.
5. I Am War
Has no hope but the owners are going to pick up $40,000 here for running last.
6. Imperatriz
Gun Kiwi mare who has won her last three starts here in superb fashion. Draws perfect in barrier four and surely only bad luck beats her.
7. I Am Me
Likeable mare who settles on speed and gives her all. Won the Sydney Stakes last start but did have the bias in her favour there. Top three chance here with J Mac sticking.
