The race was first held as a Listed race in 1993 when it was won by Big Dreams written by Jim Cassidy. It was upgraded to Group 3 status in 2003.

Who was Show County?

The race is named in honour of the versatile sprinter Show County, who was successful as a two-year-old and three year old winning in 1988 and 1989 the Breeders Plate and many Group races.
