Following the early scratching of Pier Pressure, 10 fillies remain for the 2023 Fillies Classic. Three runners had their last start in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes over 1600m on 7th October and two in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality over 1400m at Randwick on 14th October while the rest came via different races. Two runners are sired by Dundeel.

The early favourite is Skybird who has won both her starts by good margins. The second favourite is Broadcaster who finished 3rd in the Reginald Allen. Third favourite is Captain Amelia who ran on from well back for 5th in the Group 1 Flight Stakes. Carina Queen has won 2 of her 3 starts while Aprilia comes off 2nd in the Edward Manifold. All other runners are currently $12 or longer.

4. Captain Amelia (9)

One of 2 runners sired by Dundeel (the other is Oceans Of Energy). Ran on from well back for 5th in the Group 1 Flight Stakes over 1600m at Randwick on 30th September. Place chance.

5. Oceans Of Energy (6)

Finished 6th in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality over 1400m at Randwick on 14th October. Hasn’t won beyond 1200m. Prefer others.

6. Nodachi (2)

Ran 3 lengths 4th in the Edward Manifold. Won’t be far away.

7. Grinzinger Belle (10)

On a 7 day back-up after 7th in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes over 2000m. Coming back in distance and could place.

8. Skybird (11)

Has won both her starts by good margins. Won by 1.75 lengths over 1200m at Ballarat on debut then won by 2.5 lengths over 1300m at Bendigo on 8th October. Looks good for longer and is a winning chance.

9. Poifect (1)

Disappointed when 7.6 lengths last in the EdwardManifold. Is better than that and has drawn the rails.

10. Broadcaster (3)

Finished 3rd in the Reginald Allen. Still a maiden but has placed in 3 of her 4 starts and won’t be a maiden for very long.

11. Quickster (8)

Finished a close 2nd over 1200m at Pakenham at her only start. Unlikely.
