The Crystal Mile is a Group 2 race held at Moonee Valley racecourse over 1600m. It is run under standard weight-for-age conditions. The total prizemoney this year is $300,000.

Track: Good Weather: Fine

A small field of 6 have accepted for the 2023 Crystal Mile. There are 4 geldings and 2 mares, who are both from New Zealand, with one 4YO, two 5YOs, two 6YOs and one 7YO. Two runners had their last start in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap over 1600m at Caulfield on 14th October while the rest came via different races.

The early favourite is Tuvalu who ran 2nd to Alligator Blood in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes last start. The second favourite is Antino who has won 9 of his 12 starts and was 2nd in the Toorak. Third favourite is talented New Zealand mare Prowess who won the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes on her last visit to Australia. All other runners are currently $12 or longer.

1. Tuvalu (2)

Ran 2nd to Alligator Blood in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes over 1800m last start and has had a 5 week freshen-up. Returns to his best distance and has placed at both previous starts at this track. One of the main chances.

2. Bankers Choice (3)

Runner-up in this race last year. Last start he made a huge run from the back and was taking ground off Antino through the line. when 3rd in the  Group 1 Toorak Handicap over 1600m at Caulfield on 14th October

3. Just Folk (5)

Won this race in 2021.  Ran well first-up for the new stable for 2nd in the Listed Paris Lane Stakes over 1400m at Flemington on 7th October, and can improve with fitness over further now.

4. Antino (4)

He has won 9 of his 12 starts and just missed late to finish 2nd in the Toorak last start. Blake Shinn has been successful on him before, and he should fight out the finish.

5. Mustang Valley (6)

New Zealand mare who is an absolute mudlark. Won a Group 1 on heavy going over 1600m in New Zealand 2 starts back, then was 4th in a Group 1 last start. Won’t be suited by the Good track.

6. Prowess (1)

A talented New Zealand mare with 7 wins and 3 places from her 10 starts. She won the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes on her last visit to Australia. Should run well.
