Track: Soft   Weather: Possible showers

Following the early scratchings of Jamaea and Robodira, 16 mares remain for the $175,000 Hawkesbury Crown. Trainer Chris Waller has four runners while Kris Lees, Bjorn Baker and Jason Coyle all have two runners. Six are four-year-olds, eight are five-year-olds and the remaining two are both six-year-olds. Two runners had their last start in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes over 1500m at Newcastle on 28 March, two in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on 9 April and two in the Provincial-Midway Championships Final over 1400m at Randwick on 9 April.

The early favourite is three-year-old  Brookspire from the Chris Waller stable who has four wins and four places from her 12 starts. Second favourite is Fashchanel who resumes from a 15 week spell and is very strong first-up. She has also won at this track and distance. Third favourite is Wandabaa from the Kris Lees stable who finished 1.4 lengths 4th in the Sapphire Stakes on a heavy track last outing.

Never Talk has won six of her 19 starts. Jump The Broom has four wins from five starts but has drawn the extreme outside barrier. Mirra Vision gets the blinkers on for the first time and will appreciate the cut in the ground. Nudge is resuming from a spell. She’s The Gift is having her first start for a new trainer and has won two of her last three starts while Cliff’s Art has four wins from 12 starts.  All other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.
