Sheila Gwynne Classic – 2022

Eight runners have accepted for the $125,000 Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic and there have been no early scratchings. Each stable has one entry each, which should prove for a cracking contest.

Early on in the betting, it is starting to look like a race in two between Buzzoom and Amasenus. They both met in the Marjorie Charleson Classic, where they both had beautiful runs and went head to head up the straight with Amasenus getting the better of her rival by half a length. They now have to face each other over 1400m and Amasenus has to give Buzzoom a 1.5kg advantage from her last start win.

Lipstick Flickers looks the only danger to the top two in betting, coming into this one after a poor fifth placing in a benchmark 72.

Got within half a length of Buzzoom two back but meets her 2.5kg worse off that run. Place chance.

2. Jadavi (3)

2300m back down to 1400m is going to be a task.

3. Cryptic Love (1)

Prefer others.

4. Amasenus (2)

Looks like one of the ones to beat. Just needs clear air at the top of the straight.

5. Lipstick Flickers (7)

Big threat to the top two in betting. Will need to improve to beat them but if she can, she will run a big race.

6. La Farola (4)

Can’t have.

7. Dee Keepa (8)

On the quick backup. Big step up in grade. Big place chance.

8. Buzzoom (5)

Drawn well, maps well. Gets nice weight turn around and up to 1400m. One to beat.
