Northam Stakes – 2022

Track: Good Weather: Sunny.

Eleven runners have accepted for the $150,000 Group 3 Northam Stakes and there have been no early scratchings. Each stable has one entry each, which should prove for a cracking contest.

Elite Street is resuming after 155 days off and will enter this race as the favourite. He finished last preparation with a cracking third in the Winterbottom Stakes but after the race, he was discovered to have bled, therefore he was banned for three months. There are about three horses close together in the betting after that being Massimo, Indian Pacific, and Cup Night. 

Massimo is on resumption after 148 days after placing in the Group 3 A.J Scahill Stakes. Indian Pacific and Cup Night are coming out of the Winterbottom Stakes as well and are both returning after 155 days off.

Ten of the eleven entries are first-up with Flirtini the only horse with a run under her belt.

1. Elite Street (7)

First-up after 155 days. Will get the pace to suit and will get the last chance at them. One to beat.

2. Laverrod (8)

First-up after 155 days. Likely to get back and is a solid place chance.

3. Massimo (2)

First-up after 148 days. Drawn ideally to head forward though might get bogged on the rail. At his best, he can win this.

4. Red Can Man (5)

First-up after 148 days. Terrific first-up record. Should run a massive race.

5. Indian Pacific (3)

First-up after 155 days. Generally goes well first-up. Maps to get a terrific run and could win this.

6. Carocapo (10)

First-up after 57 days. Looks outclassed against these.

7. Cup Night (1)

Last year’s winner of this race. First-up after 155 days. Goes well first-up. Drawn poorly in barrier one as he will get buried back on the rail.

8. Mervyn (11)

First-up after 120 days. Can’t have.

9. Comfort Me (9)

First-up after 148 days. Will be competitive but will be looking for further.

10. Yeah Dardy (4)

First-up after 295 days. Can’t have.

11. Flirtini (6)

She ran 2nd in this race in 2020 when it was run at Ascot. Ran well first-up at Ascot. This looks too hard though.
