Gold Coast Stakes – 2022

Track: Soft   Weather: Fine

The Gold Coast Stakes is always a great race to watch and the 1800 is a true test of fitness and survival. Some of these in the race have an absolute loving for the Gold Coast track including Sea Raider and Hail Manhattan. Star Of Michelin is coming off a very strong win last start while Tamilaide has hit career-best form. Humbolt Current and Stardome are never far away and both are representing the mighty Chris Waller stable. Great race.

1. Sea Raider (11)

Very hard to knock Sea Raider and any give in the ground is a huge plus. It loves racing at this track and doesn’t seem to be phased by wide draws. Tough competitor and whether it slots in or stays wide it’ll be in the finish regardless.

2. Hail Manhattan (3)

Has the right form for this and if respecting Sea Raider then Hail Manhattan must come into calculations. Loves racing at this track, comes up with a good draw and Ryan Wiggins is a big positive in the saddle. Maps for the gun run and has solid each-way claims.

3. Happy Go Plucky (13)

Hasn’t won for quite some time but has a booming turn of foot when things fall into place for it. Some hope but couldn’t have it in my numbers.

4. Star Of Michelin (12)

Outstanding last start win enjoying the more spacious track. No result at its attempt at the track and over the trip but off that last start win it will be filled with confidence. Star Of Michelin will need luck from the draw but Maloney sticks and it isn’t out of this.

5. Tamilaide (8)

Has put it all together lately and hard to pot Tamilaide. Thompson is 4 wins from 6 steers and any give in the ground is a positive. Certainly hard to beat and if the gaps open it will be flying home.

6. Sir Barnabus (5)

Has to be some hope launching from the good draw. Seasoned campaigner and knows how to run out the 1800 and also enjoys the track. Chance.

7. Humbolt Current (6)

Humbolt Current is hard to catch from a punter’s perspective but does have the ability. Waller knows how to get them ready for the big races, however, I couldn’t have it in my numbers.

8. Stardome (7)

Will take confidence off the last start win and as mentioned above, Waller knows how to get them ready for the big races.

9. Victory Eight (1)

Likely to get back from barrier 1 which could be problematic. Seems to relish the heavy so will come into play if the rain falls down, marginal hope.

10. Supergiant (2)

Off the boil lately and battling for form but is a 4th up winner, gets a kind draw and Wilson-Taylor steers. Can win if it lifts and finds its best.

11. Tavion Prince (10)

They don’t miss often when Tavion Prince is backed so the market could be a handy guide for it. Is in good form and looks certainly like a great chance here.

12. Zigallene (4)

Can’t have.

13. Sayl (9)

Knows where the line is and despite the tricky draw it is hard to knock the winning form. Hard to beat with a good run in transit and is certainly in the mix.
