Queen’s Cup 2022 Preview

Track: Soft-Heavy Weather:80% chance of showers (1-5mm)

Seventeen runners have accepted for the $160,000 Group 3 Queen’s Cup with three of those being emergencies, and there are no early scratchings. The Chris Waller stable is saddling up four runners here including emergencies, Kris Lees with three runners including emergencies, Matthew Smith with three runners whilst the rest of the trainers have just the one entry.

Zeyrek is the slight favourite here on the back of his brilliant victory in the Randwick City Stakes, which he saluted by 2.75 lengths. Surefire is a close second favourite after his nice win first-up in his Australian Debut, saluting by just over half a length in benchmark 88 quality.

No Compromise is third favourite after a solid run off a poor draw and map.

Queen’s Cup Runner by Runner

1. Nickajack Cave (17)

Can’t have on recent runs.

2. Knights Order (9)

Solid run first-up behind Zeyrek. Will love the extra distance and lack of speed. Could run a cheeky race.

3. Mightybeel (8)

Didn’t handle the conditions last start according to the stewards report. Couldn’t back with confidence here.

4. Mustajeer (12)

Can’t have on recent form.

5. Zeyrek (10)

Was a good win last start. No speed so should map similarly. If he reproduces that performance, he will be hard to beat.

6. Luncies (16)

Blackbooker from last start. Gets 1.5kg swing on Zeyrek for a 2.75 length defeat. Will love the extra distance but has drawn poorly. Each-way chance.

7. Sweet Thomas (11)

Can’t have.

8. South Pacific (6)

Fit but needs to be better.

9. First In Line (4)

Gets to likeable distance but can’t have on form.

10. No Compromise (13)

Drawn poorly. Just building the kilometres up for a Sydney Cup run. If it drew better and changed jockey it would have been a good chance. Place.

11. Kaapfever (7)

Back to 2400m is ideal, but looks a touch outclassed.

12. Savvy Valentino (15)

Blinkers again. Ready for trip but will be giving them a start.

13. Surefire (5)

Big win in first Australian start. Step up in distance suits and the sting won’t worry him. One to beat.

14. True Marvel (2)

Can’t have.

15e. Chalk Stream (14)

Might run a race if he gains a start.

16e. Our Candidate (1)

Can’t have.

17e. Olympic Gaze (3)

Can’t have.
