Golden Slipper – 2022

Sixteen runners and four emergencies have accepted for the $5,000,000 Group 1 Golden Slipper and there have been no early scratchings. The Annabel Neasham stables has three runners (including emergencies), Team Hawkes, Team Snowden and Gary Portelli all saddle up two runners (including emergencies) whilst the other stables only have the one entry.

Coolangatta has opened the early favourite, even though she hasn’t been seen since her win in the 2yo Magic Millions. She is looking to be the first since Capitalist in 2016 to complete the Magic Millions/Slipper double which has been a very rare feat. Sejardan is the second pick in the betting after his impressive win in the Todman Stakes. His trainer will be jumping at the chance of the colt drawing a barrier that can have him sit closer in the run.

She’s Extreme and Best of Bordeaux are tight in the betting for third, both coming up last start wins.

1. Daumier (8)

Blue Diamond winner who saluted in dramatic fashion. Unknown on the wet and Sydney way. Could run a race.

2. Sejardan (7)

Draws a better barrier, doesn’t mind the wet either. He can play a massive role in this race.

3. Best of Bordeaux (10)

Will head forward from a decent draw. Undefeated in career after his win in the Silver Slipper. Is going to run a big race.

4. Shalatin (5)

I thought he had his chance last start behind Sejardan. Can’t have.

5. Jacquinot (11)

Blinkers on first time. Drawn okay but will be giving them a start. Unknown on wet and Sydney way.

6. Sebonack (15)

Drawn poorly and will need a lot of luck.

7. Rise of the Masses (20)

Drawn the carpark, but due to his pattern it won’t phase him. Will be fit but others are better.

8. Coolangatta (14)

Looking to remain undefeated. Has been saved to run this fresh which could be her downfall, but the stable and jockey are confident. She comes back better, she will be hard to beat.

9. Revolutionary Miss (17)

Has experience in Sydney, unknown on the wet. Was in that dramatic Blue Diamond race. Going to give them a start from the draw.

10. Russian Conquest (16)

Wasn’t impressed last start and stewards report read he didn’t handle the conditions. Based on that, I can’t have him here.

11. Queen of the Ball (3)

Trainers don’t like her on the wet tracks which she will likely get here. She is tough but I prefer others.

12. Fireburn (2)

Drawn well. Impressive winner of the Sweet Embrace. Will love the conditions at hand. Will improve and can run a race.

13. Ojai (12)

Prefer others.

14. Seven Veils (19)

I thought she was a top chance until she draw the gate. She can still run a race but it is a lot harder.

15. Lady Laguna (13)

Prefer others.

16. She’s Extreme (6)

Drawn well. Good winner of the Magic Night. She is fighting fit on a quick back-up. Big chance

17e. Sweet Ride(9)

Will run a good race if it gets a start.
