Race 8 at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday the 18th of May 2024.

The Doomben 10,000 is a Group 1 race held at Doomben Racecourse over 1200 metres. It is for three-year-olds and upwards and is run under weight for age conditions. The total prize money is $1,500,000 this year.

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

Nine runners have accepted for the 2024 Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 with 4 geldings, 4 mares and a filly. There is one 3YO, two 4YOs, four 5YOS and two 6YOs. Three runners had their last start in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes over 1400m at Randwick on 20th April (won by Magic Time), while the rest came via different races. Two runners are trained by Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman, and two by Joseph Pride.

The short-priced favourite is I Wish I Win who resumed for 0.3 length 3rd in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on 6th April. Second favourite is Espiona who was 7th in the All Aged on a Heavy 10 track. Third favouritism is shared between Bella Nipotina who came 4th in the $5,000,000 The Quokka over 1200m at Ascot on 20th April and Private Eye who ran 3rd in the All Aged. Chain Of Lightning came 6th in the All Aged. The other runners are currently $12 or longer.

1. I Wish I Win (1)

Resumed for 0.3 length 3rd in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on 6th April and has good form on soft and heavy going. Perfectly drawn and has had a 6 week let-up. Major chance.

2. Private Eye (6)

Ran 3rd in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes over 1400m at Randwick on 20th April (won by Magic Time). Place chance.

3. Mazu (8)

Won this race in 2022 and came 3rd in 2023. Last-start winner of the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on heavy going on 20th April. Should run well.

4. Body Bob (7)

Ran 5th at Wagga at his latest outing and is having his first black-type race. Has been thrown in the deep end but does go well on rain-affected going.

5. Bella Nipotina (3)

Came 4th in the $5,000,000 The Quokka over 1200m at Ascot on 20th April and has been performing well in Group 1 races. A real danger.

6. Chain Of Lightning (5)

Didn’t get a clear run when she came 6th in the All Aged. Can be in the finish.

7. Espiona (9)

Was 7th in the All Aged on a Heavy 10 track where the rider said she was never comfortable in the heavy ground. Expect improvement.

8. Wee Nessy (2)

Won the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on 13th April then was runner-up in the Group 2 Victory Stakes over 1200m at Eagle Farm on 4th May. Has been going very well this campaign and could surprise.

9. Stefi Magnetica (4)

Hasn’t raced since 2nd in the Group 1 Surround Stakes over 1400m at Randwick on 2nd March. Only has 55kg to carry but is racing against older horses here rather than being in 3YO company. Not the worst.
