Archer Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Fine
There is a small field of seven runners for the 2023 Archer Stakes. There are 4 geldings, a stallion and 2 mares and they all come via different races. The early favourite is Athabascan who was less than 2 lengths off the winner in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup over 2500m after being held up from the 400m to 100m. The second favourite is Kalapour who ran 3rd in the Group 1 Metropolitan over 2400m then 3rd in the ATC St Leger Stakes. Third favourite is Mostly Cloudy who finished 4th in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings over 2520m coming from well back in the field. All other runners are currently $6 or longer.

1. Ladies Man (5)
New Zealand runner who was 3rd in the Group 2 Auckland Cup earlier in the year. At his latest start he won the Group 1 Livamol Classic over 2040m at Hastings on 14th October. Looks a chance.
2. Kalapour (1)
Ran 3rd in the Group 1 Metropolitan over 2400m at Randwick on 30th September then 3rd in the ATC St Leger Stakes over 2600m at Randwick on 14th October. Should run well again.
3. Athabascan (3)
Was less than 2 lengths off the winner in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup over 2500m on 27th October after being held up from the 400m to 100m. One of the main chances.
4. Mostly Cloudy (6)
He was hampered at the start and finished 4th in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings over 2520m at Flemington on 7th October coming from well back in the field. At the start before he won at this track and distance on 16th September. strong chance.
5. United Nations (4)
Placed 3 races in a row, including 2nd in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes over 2400m on 14th October, before finishing 10th in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup on 21st October when the long run told late. Place chance.
6. Gan Teorainn (7)
She has only won one of her 12 races and that was over 1600m. She finished her races off hard though, and has potential.
7. Speak (2)
Only just missed in a driving finish in the Pinker Pinker Plate last start over 2025m at Cranbourne. This is much harder.
