WA Guineas 2022 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There is a full field of 16 runners for the $500,000 WA Guineas and 6 of them had their last start in the Listed Fairetha Stakes over 1400m at Ascot on 5 November while the rest came via different races. There are 12 geldings, 2 colts and 2 fillies. Two are sired by Playing God, two by Patronize, two by Rommel and two by Manhattan Rain. Trainer Neville Parnham has three runners and Grant & Alana Williams and Luke Fernie both have two.

The early favourite is Amelia’s Jewel who won 4 races in a row before 2nd in the Burgess Queen Stakes. Second favourite is Bustler who has won all 4 of his starts, including the Fairetha Stakes last outing. Third favourite is All The King’s Men who was a close 2nd in the Fairetha.

Snowdome ran 4th in the Fairetha. Saintorio comes off a 1600m win at Ascot and has 4 wins and 5 places from 11 starts. Swear To God has won 3 of his 6 starts, while Linden Lady ran 3rd in the WA Champion Fillies Stakes last week. The other runners are currently 25 to 1 or longer.

2022 WA Guineas Runner by Runner

1. Snowdome (10)

One of three runners for trainer Neville Parnham. This Rommel colt ran 4th in the Fairetha Stakes and steps up to 1600m for the first time. In the mix.

2. Saintorio (15)

Comes off a 1600m win at Ascot and has 4 wins and 5 places from 11 starts. He has had 5 runs this campaign for 2 wins and 3 places. Very consistent gelding who is one of only 3 runners to have won over the distance. Would be no surprise to see him in the finish.

3. All The King’s Men (6)

He is in great form this campaign, resuming for a 1200m win at Belmont, a 1400m win at Ascot then he was a close 2nd in the Fairetha. One of the main chances.

4. Man Crush (16)

One of two runners for trainer Luke Fernie. Has placed in 2 of his 4 runs this campaign and gets the winkers on for the first time. Has drawn the outside barrier and others look to have better chances.

5. Swear To God (7)

This Playing God colt has 3 wins and 2 places from 6 starts. Clearly talented and could run a place.

6. Bustler (4)

Unbeaten in 4 starts and won the Fairetha Stakes last outing beating several other runners in this race. Should be in the finish.

7. Rejuva King (8)

Has won 3 of his 8 starts, including one over 1600m. The worry is that he has not won in 4 outings to Ascot.

8. Lord Gannicus (1)

One of two runners for trainers Grant & Alana Williams. Won over 1500m at Ascot on 26 October, then handled the turn really badly and ruined his chances over 1600m at Ascot on 5 November where he finished 6 lengths 11th of 13. Drawn the inside barrier. Has upside.

9. Demolish (2)

Has won 2 of his last 3 starts. This is a big jump in grade but he’s not the worst.

10. Upper Limits (13)

Has a win and 5 places from 6 starts. Came from last for 3rd in the Fairetha. One to keep an eye on.

11. Sunny Honey (9)

On a seven day back-up. Faces a big rise in trip. Looking elsewhere.

12. Mojo’s Luck (3)

Resumed for 2.6 lengths 5th over 1400m at Ascot. Looking to others.

13. Catch These Hands (12)

Won a 1400m maiden at Ascot last start. Will find this much tougher.

14. Santa Brae (14)

He has only had two starts, running 3rd both times, and is the only maiden runner in the race. Prefer others.

15. Amelia’s Jewel (5)

Won 4 races in a row including the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate and the Listed Belgravia Stakes before 2nd in the Burgess Queen Stakes where she started odds-on favourite. Has the chance to redeem herself here.

16. Linden Lady (11)

She came from last to run 3rd in the WA Champion Fillies Stakes last week. Clearly has no issues with the distance. Wouldn’t surprise to see her in the finish.
