Jungle Mist Classic 2022 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There are 13 fillies and mares lining up for the $125,000 Jungle Mist Classic with one 3YO, three 4YOs, three 5YOs and six 6YOs. Two of them had their last start in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes over 1100m at Ascot on 12 November and two in a Rating 72+ Handicap over 1000m at Ascot on 29 October, while the rest came via different races. Trainers Neville Parnham and Simon A. Miller both have two runners.

The early favourite is Sniparoochy who resumed from a spell for a 2.2 length win over 1000m at Ascot. Second favourite is Baby Paris, the only filly in the field, who was a 1.4 length winner of the Placid Ark Prelude last outing. Third favouritism is shared between 2021 winner Angelic Miss who resumes from a 21 week spell and was placed in both lead-up trials, and Buzzoom who resumed for 3rd behind Sniparoochy and has a great record at his track and distance. Real Grace ran poorly last start but won two in a row before that, while Vane Tempest ran 2nd in a strong race last start. The other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.

2022 Jungle Mist Classic Runner by Runner

1. Amasenus (11)

One of two runners for Simon Miller. On a seven day back-up after running 5.5 lengths 9th in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes. A talented mare who has 10 wins from 25 starts, but seems below her best this preparation.

2. Angelic Miss (9)

Won this race last year and is the other Miller runner. Resumes from a 21 week spell and was placed in both lead-up trials. She has a great record at this track and distance and a solid first-up record. One of the chances.

3. Buzzoom (10)

Resumed for 3rd over 1000m behind Sniparoochy on 29 October and has a great record at his track and distance. This distance suits her better. In the mix.

4. Express Time (5)

One of two runners for Neville Parnham. Resumed for last of 12 in the Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes over 1000m on 29 October, then finished 13th in the Colonel Reeves Stakes. Looking to others.

5. Sniparoochy (4)

Resumed from a spell for a 2.2 length win over 1000m at Ascot. Goes well at this track and steps up to her favourite distance. This is her first black-type race. One of the main chances.

6. Vane Tempest (12)

Ran 0.3 length 2nd in a strong race last start behind Hot Zed. On a seven day back-up and rates highly with Clint Johnston-Porter aboard. the Only query is that she has 11 starts at Ascot without winning. One for the exotics.

7. Universal Pleasure (13)

Drawn the outside barrier. She was slowly away when 1.2 lengths 3rd over 1200m at Ascot on 22 October. Not the worst.

8. Karijini Aurora (1)

Has had a 9 week let-up and normally needs a run or two to show her best.

9. Hint Of Mint (8)

Finished 3rd at Ascot last start at her 2nd run at the track, Won at Northan first-up this campaign. Rough place chance.

10. Gunmetal Grey (7)

Ran on strongly to finish 2nd at Ascot last start and hasn’t managed a win at Ascot in 9 races here. Could place.

11. Real Grace (3)

Ran poorly last start but won two in a row before that. Gets William Pike and could place.

12. Valency (2)

Finished 3rd over 1200m at Ascot last start and can improve third-up.

13. Baby Paris (6)

The only filly in the field, who was a 1.4 length winner of the Placid Ark Prelude last outing. She has won 4 of her 5 starts and gets a featherweight of 51.5kg  against the mares who all have at least 3.5 kg more. Jockey Peter Knuckey knows her well and she should be in the finish.
