Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic 2023 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There is a field of 14 two-year-olds lining up for the $237,500 Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic with one colt, 4 geldings and 9 fillies. Eight runners had their last start in a 2YO plate over 1100m at Ascot on 5 February, 3 in a 2YO Plate over 1000m at Ascot on 11 February, 2 came via different races and one runner is making her debut. Two runners are sired by A Lot and two by Safeguard. Trainer Luke Fernie has 3 runners and Ryan Hill has 2.

The early favourite is A Lot Of Good Men who has won 2 of his 3 starts, beating 7 other runners in this field last start with a 0.9 length win. Second favourite is Super Smink who did a great job from the widest barrier to finish 3rd behind the favourite at her only start. Third favourite is Odinaka who won by 1.8 lengths on 11 February and is on a 7 day back-up.

Dubai’s Daughter makes her debut here and has trialled well. Champagne Street ran 2nd behind the favourite at her only start, while Snow Prince won his only start by 0.9 lengths over 1200m at Ascot on 28 January.. All other runners are currently over $20.

2023 Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic Runner by Runner

1. A Lot Of Good Men (8)

The only colt in the race has won 2 of his 3 starts, beating 7 other runners in this field last start with a 0.9 length win over 1100m at Ascot. It was a stylish win and he should be hard to beat.

2. Odinaka (4)

By the same sire as the favourite. He has had 2 starts and won the lastest  over 1000m at Ascot by 1.8 lengths on 11 February On a 7 day back-up and looks one of the key players.

3. Snow Prince (11)

One of 2 runners sired by Safeguard (the other is Guarding Heaven). He won his only start by 0.9 lengths over 1200m at Ascot on 28 January. Gets winkers on for the first time and is drawn wide but looks to have early speed. In the mix.

4. Leading Taddy (1)

He’s had 3 starts and his 2nd start was a 3.9 length win over 1200m at Pinjarra Park on 26 December. He is the only runner to have won, or even raced, at the track. Finished nearly 7 lengths behind the favourite at Ascot last start, but has drawn ideally, Place chance.

5. Big Player (9)

One of 3 runners for Luke Fernie. Ran 3.8 lengths 3rd over 1000m at Ascot on debut then finished 5.5 lengths behind the favourite last start. Prefer others.

6. Guarding Heaven (13)

Has one win and one place from 8 starts. Finished 4.8 lengths 12th over 1600m at Belmont last start. This looks too hard.

7. Champagne Street (12)

Ran 2nd behind the favourite at her only start. Has drawn wide in barrier 12 but has to be one of the key players in this race.

8. Ecstasy Of Gold (7)

Four race starts give her more race experience than any other runner. Was 3.4 lengths 5th behind the favourite last start. Rough place chance.

9. Super Smink (5)

Did a great job from the widest barrier to finish 3rd behind the favourite at her only start. Has drawn better here and looks a nice type. In the mix.

10. Duo Muso (2)

Finished mid-field at both her starts. Looking elsewhere.

11. Twist Of Gold (10)

Has had 2 starts for a 6th and an 8th. Gets winkers on for the first time and is on a 7 day back-up. Prefer others.

12. Rubick Lass (14)

Had her first start in November where she ran 6th of 10. Resumes from a 13 week break and won a recent trial. Unlikely.

13. Ofcourse She Has (3)

Debuted for 4 lengths 7th over 1000m at Ascot on 11 February. Looks safely held.

14. Dubai’s Daughter (6)

Makes her debut here and has trialled well. Could show up.
