2023 Jungle Mist Classic Race Details

Race 6 at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 18th November 2023.

The Jungle Mist Classic is a Listed race held at Ascot racecourse over 1200 metres. It is for fillies and mares three-year-olds and upwards and is run under set weights plus penalties conditions. The total prizemoney is $125,000 this year.

Jungle Mist Classic 2023 Preview

Track: Good Weather: Fine

There are 12 runners for the 2023 Jungle Mist Classic, with ten 4YOs and two 5YOs. Two runners had their last start in a RTG 72+ Handicap over 1000m at Ascot on 4th November and two had their last start in a RTG 66+ Handicap over 1400m at Ascot on 28th October, while the rest came via different races. Two are resuming from a spell. Two runners are sired by Playing God and two by Universal Ruler.

The betting is fairly open and the early favourite is Duchess Of Gossip who is resuming after winning 3 races in a row at the end of her last preparation. Second favourite is Rusty Dreams who resumed for 3rd in a RTG 78+ Handicap over 1200m at Ascot where she ran on strongly and didn’t miss by much. Third favourite is last years runner-up Baby Paris who has won 6 of her 12 starts. Flying Missile resumes and was placed in a recent trial, while Amber Glide has won her last 3 races. The other runners are currently $14 or longer.

1. Baby Paris (11)

Ran 2nd in this race last year. She is one of 2 runners sired by Playing God (the other is Goddess of Giving) and has 6 wins and 3 places from 12 starts. Won the Listed Black Heart Bart Stakes over 1200m on 30th September then was wide throughout and finished 3 lengths from the winner in the Listed R.S. Crawford Stakes over 1000m at Ascot on 21st October. One of the main chances.

2. Flying Missile (2)

Finished last campaign with a win in the Jockey Celebration Day Stakes over 1400m at Belmont. Resumes here after a 15 week spell and was placed in a recent trial. Has won 2 of 6 first-up and should go well.

3. Goddess Of Giving (8)

Was a close 3rd last start in a RTG 72+ Handicap over 1000m at Ascot on 4th November where she came from the back of the field on a day that favoured leaders. Should be fitter third-up. Don’t dismiss.

4. Rusty Dreams (12)

One of 2 runners sired by Universal Ruler (the other is Penny On The Queen). Resumed for 3rd in a RTG 78+ Handicap over 1200m at Ascot where she ran on strongly and didn’t miss by much. One of the main chances despite the widest barrier.

5. Rumour Says (7)

Gets a long way back in her races and runs on well. Hasn’t got a good record at Ascot and is yet to win over longer than 1000m. Prefer others.

6. Valency (9)

Won 2 in a row at Belmont before 2.3 lengths 8th over 1000m at Ascot where she was held-up at times. Not the worst.

7. Duchess Of Gossip (1)

Resuming after winning 3 races in a row at the end of her last preparation. Her record is 5 wins and 2 places from 8 starts, with 3 wins at this distance. This is her first race at Ascot which is a bit of a query. Gets the inside barrier and William Pike. Strong chance.

8. Amber Glide (10)

Has won her last 3 races, all over 1400m. Wouldn’t surprise to see her in the finish.

9. Penny On The Queen (4)

Won at Northam 3 starts back then has been runner-up at her last 2 starts by 0.6 length both times. In the mix.

10. Deetea (3)

Was a 2.8 length winner at this track and distance on 1st November. That was a much weaker race but it was an impressive win with good closing splits. Capable of getting some prizemoney.
