SA Fillies Classic – 2022

Track: Good  Weather: Partly Cloudy.

Twenty runners have accepted for the $152,250 Group 3 SA Fillies Classic with four of them being emergencies and there has been no early scratchings. The Patrick Payne stable has three runners in the event, the Michael Hickmott stable and Leon Macdonald/Andrew Gluyas stable have two runners entered each for the event whilst every other trainer has just one entry each.

Douceur has opened the early favourite in the Fillies Classic following her solid fifth placing in the Australasian Oaks which is a perfect lead-up for a race like this. The Amazonian sits on the second line of betting following her massive run at Caulfield over 2000m where she was caught wide without cover yet still managed to finish within a length back in second, which was a peak performance.

Mamounia rounds out the top three in the betting and she is coming off a twelfth placing Australasian Oaks where she didn’t have any known excuses.

Drawn poorly but has the form to win this now up to a longer distance. Deserved favourite and one to beat.

2. Mamounia (19)

Drawn poorly and last start she had no excuses. Hard to back with confidence.

3. Lady Chant (10)

A tough disappointing in the South Australian Derby last start. Happy to go around her.

4. Bundle of Fun (5)

Disappointing in the Australasian Oaks. Will need to be better.

5. The Amazonian (16)

Big run last start when wide the trip over 2000m and still running second. This is much harder but I see no reason why she can’t run a big race with Zahra aboard.

6. Elskling (4)

Drawn well. First go at 2500m. Will need to improve.

7. The Map (20)

Can’t have on recent form.

8. Morrissette (2)

Drawn well, blinkers first time. Could run a cheeky race.

9. Pearl Rain (12)

Looks too tough for her here.

10. Prefer Us (13)

Outclassed.

11. Mighty Adele (7)

Handles the longer distance. Will beat a fair few home.

12. Tavisteel (8)

Better than last start. Midfield finish.

13. Dunalley (3)

Coming off a maiden win over 2000m. Prefer others.

14. Parisian Veil (6)

Entered for Flemington also. Can’t have.

15. Chromatica (15)

Can’t have.

16. Great Mystery (1)

Will need to improve.
