Caulfield Guineas Prelude 2023 Race Details
Race 7 at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday the 2nd September 2023.
The Caulfield Guineas Prelude is a Group 3 race held at Caulfield Racecourse and is run over 1400 metre. It is a set weights plus penalties race for three-year-old colts and geldings. The total prize money is $300,000 this year.

Caulfield Guineas 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Fine
The Caulfield Guineas Prelude isn’t always the strongest race with many of the Guineas fancies often opting to tackle the more lucrative Golden Rose in Sydney instead. However this year the horses on the first and second line of Guineas betting – Steparty and Veight – are both here and both were impressive first up winners setting up a mouth watering contest on Saturday. Steparty opened a clear favourite and has eased slightly while Veight has tightened up.
Caulfield Guineas Prelude 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Little Brose
Blue Diamond winner. Could be looking for this trip but I’m not sure he’s made the age improvement of some of the others and the map looks sticky.
2. Veight
Exciting colt trained by the McEvoys. Won the VRC Sires easily back in March and was an impressive winner here first up over 1200. Lane off is a slight negative and he might need a touch of luck from the low draw. Key winning hope.
3. Steparty
Unbeaten colt trained by Paul Preusker at Horsham. Loved the win first up at the Valley. Despite appearing to get favours on speed I’m not sure the slow pace suited and he just kept getting stronger and stronger. The one to beat.
4. Chrysaor – SCRATCHED
5. Scheelite
Has got back and rocketed home at both runs back. He’s not a slow horse but they’ve just had no luck with gates. Probably going to have to go back again here. Look for him flying late.
6. Scentify
Was impressive winning two back at the Valley then was good behind Steparty last start. In the mix.
7. Prinzerro
Not good enough.
8. Armed Forces
Surprised they bet $46. He was unsuited first up in the Steparty race and hit the line pretty well I thought. Top 3 hope.
9. Some People Callme
Liked the win first up in maiden grade at Geelong. Derby bound?
10. Southport Tycoon
Unbeaten but did have favours last time out. Place chance.
11. Snow Patrol
Duel acceptor at Flemington on Sunday. This looks too tough.
12. Ducasse – SCRATCHED
13. Rock Empire
Waterhouse Bott galloper who won easily at the Kensington on debut. Weary.
