The Shannon Stakes is a Group 2 race held at Rosehill Racecourse and is run over 1500 metres. It is run under quality handicap conditions and is for horses aged three-years-old and older. The total prize money is $300,000 this year.

Shannon Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Fine
Tricky race to line up with many of these bringing in different form. Waterford has been hard to catch of late but does strike the right race. Cepheus has been going well in QLD and must be respected here. Cross Talk will be suited by any on pace pattern and will take catching out in front while Kirwan’s Lane mixes its form but does strike a winnable race. The chances don’t end there.
Shannon Stakes 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Kirwan’s Lane (4)
Mixing form but gets back into the right race. Gun draw and Sherry knows the horse very well. Can win.
2. New Mandate (1)
Hard to catch and barrier 1 may not suit its running pattern but goes in the mix in a race lacking depth.
3. Cepheus (2)
Racing well in QLD and is up to these. Gun draw and Nash is an ideal booking. Strikes the right race here.
4. Magical Lagoon (5)
Likely wants further than this but is a market watch fresh.
5. Cross Talk (6)
Should be able to lob on the speed and prove hard to catch. Suited if there is any on pace bias occurring on the day.
6. Lion’s Roar (9)
Winning machine who gets the right race here. Slightly tricky map but going super and very hard to knock.
7. Waterford (8)
D-day but does get the right race here. Has been costly to punters but won’t get a better chance to win and on best form does look better than this lot. Goes on top.
8. Commando Hunt (11)
Can’t have.
9. Flying Crazy (3)
Was sound first up but may be wanting further than this. Maps well and inclined to respect any moves in the betting for it.
10. Williamsburg (7)
Becoming costly for punters but finds the right race. A lot of these mix form and he is one of them. Very hard to beat if Williamsburg brings its best.
11. Byron Belle (10)
Far from hopeless. Sound run last start but would prefer it over further. Goes in the mix despite the mammoth price.
