Redelva Stakes 2022 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Cloudy

Following the early scratching of I Am Bene, there are 14 runners remaining for the $107,250 Redelva Stakes with four geldings, three colts and seven fillies. Two  of the runners had their last start in a 3YO BM 68 over 1200m at Morphettville on 2 April and two in a Super Vobis 3YO Handicap over 1100m at Caulfield on 9 April. The rest came through different races. Three runners had their last start in Sydney, six in Victoria and only five in South Australia. Trainers James Cummings and Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle have two runners each.

The early favourite is Bacchanalia who resumed from a spell for 2.6 lengths 2nd in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes and is unbeaten second-up. Second favourite is Heresy who was a 0.4 length winner of the Group 3 P J Bell Stakes over 1200m at Randwick last outing. Third in the market is I Am Me who has won her last two starts at Canberra then Ballarat by big margins.

Manhatten Times charged home late for 0.3 length 2nd in the Listed Matrice Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville after winning his previous two starts.. Champagne Dreams returns from an eight week let-up after 0.1 length 2nd in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley on 25 February. Magic Max finished 2nd at Caulfield last start. Our Heidi comes off a 2.5 length win in a Pakenham maiden, while Extreme Flight was always well back when 5th in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes. All other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.

2022 Redelva Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Bacchanalia

One of two runners for James Cummings. This Exceed And Excel gelding has four wins and two places from 10 starts. He resumed from a spell for 2.6 lengths 2nd in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes and is unbeaten second-up. One of the main chances.

2. Extreme Flight

This Extreme Choice colt has three wins and a place from nine starts. He was always well back when 5th in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes where the track was heavy. Trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman where Anthony has won this race before with Minaj in 2014. Has drawn the outside barrier and prefer others.

3. Heresy

The second runner for Janes Cummings, this Street Boss filly has started four times at Group 3 level for two wins and two places. She was a 0.4 length winner of the Group 3 P J Bell Stakes over 1200m at Randwick last outing. Has drawn very wide but should be in the finish.

4. Seradess

One of two runners sired by Astern (the other is Somewatt Fabulous). She resumed from a 22 week spell for 2.5 lengths 5th and has won 2 from 2 second-up. Trained by Mark & Levi Kavanagh where Mark has won this race before with Tropic Thunder in 2011 and Celebrity Girl in 2012. Not the worst.

5. Manhatten Times

Drawn the inside barrier this Manhattan Rain gelding charged home late for 0.3 length 2nd in the Listed Matrice Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville after winning his previous two starts. He has three wins at this track including one at this distance. Trained by Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas where Leon won this race with Victory Chant in 2008. Place hope.

6. Magic Max

One of two runners for Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle. Gordon won this race with Garner in 2020. He finished 2nd at Caulfield last start and has placed in three of four runs at Morphettville but hasn’t been able to win here. Prefer others.

7. Direct

This Siyouni colt has three placings from three runs this preparation. Has only won once in 11 starts but has placed eight times. Can place.

8. Knightstown

One of the Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle runners. Placed last start at Morphettville but has not won in four outings to the track before. Looking elsewhere.

9. Champagne Dreams

This Reward For Effort filly returns from an eight week let-up after 0.1 length 2nd in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley on 25 February. She has two wins and two places from four starts this campaign and could show up.

10. Our Heidi

This filly from the Phillip Stokes stable comes off a 2.5 length win in a Pakenham maiden and was 0.1 2nd in the Listed William Crockett Stakes at her 2nd race start. The trainer won this race with Eclair Choice in 2015. Could surprise.

11. Libiamo

She has a win and a place from four starts. Did plenty wrong last start but has ability.

12. I Am Me

From the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace stable who won this race with Muntaseera last year. She won by 2.8 lengths at Canberra on 14 March then won by 4.25 lengths over 1100m at Ballarat on 5 April. Hard to line the form up but think she can be in the finish.

13. Somewatt Fabulous

This Astern filly trained by Richard & Chantelle Jolly was a last start winner over 1200m at Morphettville. Richard trained Shablec who won this race in 2004. Jockey Paul Gatt rode Shablec back then and rides Somewatt Fabulous this year. Nicely drawn.

14. I Am Bene  – SCRATCHED

15e. Bamyan Buddha

This Rich Enuff colt trained by Grant Young comes off a narrow win in a BM 54 at Gawler. Jockey Dom Tourneur won this race on Eclair Choice in 2015. This looks too hard.
