McEwen Stakes 2023 Race Details
Race 8 at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Saturday the 9th September 2023.
The McEwen Stakes is a Group 2 race held at Moonee Valley Racecourse and is run over 1200m. It is held under set standard weight-for-age conditions. The total prize money is $300,000 this year.

McEwen Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Soft Weather: Chance of a shower
All eyes will be on Giga Kick as he kicks off a quest for back to back Everest‘s. He is currently a shade of odds on in the betting and it won’t surprise to see him tighten up from that quote on race day. The second favourite Imperatriz is no slouch. She won a Group 1 here at her last start. Rothfire looks the only other chance.
McEwen Stakes 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Giga Kick
Superstar sprinter who won The Everest last year. Was second in the TJ Smith in the Autumn then won the Group 1 All Aged Stakes and Group 1 Doomben 10,000. He’s got bigger fish to fry but his jump outs have been excellent and he proved 1st up last time that 1000m is no obstacle. Expecting him to be too strong late.
2. Rothfire
Very consistent customer who was placed twice at Group 1 level in the Brisbane Winter. He’s not in the same class as Giga but will have map favours and the booking of Shinn is significant.
3. Zoustyle
Goes well first up and is drawn to be right on speed. In the mix for exotics.
4. Acromantula
Western Australian who was too good here last time against easier company. Looks out of his depth here.
5. Imperatriz
New Zealand mare with an imposing record. She won the Group 1 William Reid over 1200m at her last start here in March. Think the draw means she ends up behind Giga Kick in the run and I can’t see her getting over the top of him.
6. Seradess
Quality mare but is another that isn’t up to the top couple in the betting there. Can run top 4.

Not here.
