Herbert Power Stakes – 2022

Track: Good Weather: Fine

A staying race that will be survival of the fittest. Current favourite Saracen Knight gets the perfect draw and is 1/1 when Kah does the steering. Desert Icon continues to race well and gets the services of J-Mac. Regal Lion comes from the Neasham stable and has a stack of upside while Persan loves racing on this track and has plenty of class. The tempo should be solid with Point Nepean and Persan rolling forward.

1.  Grand Promenade (3)

Had a fair bit to do first up. Is 2/3 over this trip, maps for a nice run in transit and has the ability to figure in the finish at healthy odds. Respect any market moves.

2. Persan (10)

A quality stayer that will bowl along up front and give a good sight. Lane steers from barrier 10 and he will need some luck early with other pace in the race. The $8.50 is a healthy price and Persan loves racing at Caulfield.

3. Sheraz (9)

Can run well in this field and does have a strong 3rd up record. Ollie will need some luck from the draw and I do question whether Sheraz prefers a little toe in the ground. Either way, this race is still within reach.

4. Desert Icon (1)

Interesting to see what the tactics will be for Desert Icon from barrier 1. J-Mac steers for the first time, the trip suits and Caulfield has been a happy hunting ground for it. There are plenty of boxes ticked and its the one to beat.

5. Emissary (11)

Over the odds in this field if Mcneil can weave some magic from the draw. Enormous win fresh before not being disgraced behind Smokin Romans who has won again since and is the Caulfield Cup favourite. That looks the right form and it is a huge chance.

6. Makram (14)

Should appreciate dry ground and had some excuses last run. The map looks tricky from barrier 14 so Williams will need to produce his best.

7. Schabau (15)

Flies 2nd up so this race isn’t out of reach. The problem with Schabau is its ability to settle but getting the first up run out of the way is ideal. This race is within reach.

8. Point Nepean (6)

Should push forward and give a sight from the nice draw. Point Nepean is 1/1 on this track and 1/2 second up. This race is suitable and it can win at good odds.

9. Royal Lion (7)

Showed an excellent turn of foot last run and comes from an astute stable. Can take this out with a pinch of luck from the draw.

10. Attorney (12)

Can’t have.

11. Good Idea (4)

This looks too tough.

12. Saracen Knight (2)

Excellent win last start. Should land in the plum spot from the draw and Kah is 1/1 aboard. Saracen Knight is well weighted in this field and deserves to be respected by the market. Hard to beat.

13. The Good Fight (8)

Can’t have.

14. Tigertiger (5)

Prefer others.

15. Harmysian (13)

Around the mark without winning often. A dry track suits but Thornton will need some luck from the draw. Top 4 chance.
