2022 Colonel Reeves Stakes Race Details

Race 7 at Ascot on Saturday 12th November 2022.

The Colonel Reeves Stakes is a Group 3 race over 1100 metres at Ascot. It is a set weights and penalties race for 3YOs and upwards run by the Western Australian Turf Club in November. It is one of five feature races on the day and has prizemoney of $150,000.

Colonel Reeves Stakes 2022 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There are 15 runners for the $150,000 Colonel Reeves Stakes with 10 geldings and 5 mares. They are all older horses with 12 6YOs and 3 7YOs. Seven runners had their last start in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes over 1000m at Ascot on 29 October and two in the Listed R.S. Crawford Stakes over 1000m on 15 October while the rest came via different races. Trainers Daniel Morton, Neville Parnham, Chris & Michael Gangemi and Simon A. Miller each have two runners.

The early favourite is 2021 winner Elite Street who resumes here after 26 weeks to defend his title.  Second favourite is Miss Conteki who has won both races this campaign – the RS Crawford Stakes and the Prince Of Wales Stakes. Third favourite is Wilchino who finished 4.4 lengths 11th in the Crawford when fresh.

Red Can Man returns from Melbourne after finishing 2.5 lengths 8th in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes. This’ll Testya finished 2nd in both the RS Crawford Stakes and the Prince Of Wales Stakes. Comes A Time finished 4th in the Prince Of Wales, Nerodio finished 8th, while Amasenus finished 5th. The other runners are currently 30 to 1 or longer.

1. Elite Street (9)

The 2021 winner  resumes here after 26 weeks to defend his title. He is one of two runners for Daniel Morton and is very smart with 10 wins from 19 starts. He only had 2 starts last preparation and won them both – the Group 3 Northam Stakes over 1100m and the Group 3 Roma Cup over 1200m at Belmont. One of the main chances.

2. Laverrod (10)

Resumes from a 22 week spell. Has had two trials and gets William Pike. Rough place chance.

3. Red Can Man (6)

Returns from Melbourne after finishing 2.5 lengths 8th in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on 17 September. Won a trial at Albany by over 8 lengths on 4 November. Must respect.

4. Indian Pacific (5)

One of two runners for Neville Parnham. Finished 3rd in the Prince Of Wales and has 4 wins at the track. Not the worst.

5. Money Matters (15)

One of two runners for Chris & Michael Gangemi. Only beat one runner home in the Crawford Stakes. Looking elsewhere.

6. Outrageous (8)

Unplaced in all five runs this campaign. Not keen.

7. Nerodio (2)

Finished 8th in the Prince Of Wales after a good 3rd in the Crawford. Not the worst.

8. Comes A Time (13)

Finished 4th in the Prince Of Wales after winning the Listed Black Heart Bart Stakes over 1200m at Belmont on 24 September and the Nicopolis Stakes over 1200m at Belmont on 24 September. A very consistent gelding who can place.

9. Pandemic (1)

Resumes from a 27 week spell and having his first run for a new trainer. Prefer to watch.

10. Miss Conteki (14)

Very smart mare who is one of two runners for trainer Simon Miller. She has 11 wins from 16 starts and has won both races this campaign – the RS Crawford Stakes and the Prince Of Wales Stakes. Should fight out the finish.

11. Amasenus (7)

Finished 5th in the Prince Of Wales after 12th in the Crawford. Has a good record at the track but prefer others.

12. Jericho Missile (11)

Finished last in the Eurythmic Stakes last start. looking elsewhere.

13. This’ll Testya (12)

Finished 2nd in both the RS Crawford Stakes and the Prince Of Wales Stakes. Capable of getting in the money again.

14. Wilchino (3)

Finished 4.4 lengths 11th in the Crawford when fresh,but has an excellent strike rate and is one of the chances.

15. Express Time (4)

Finished last in the Prince Of Wales when resuming but generally goes very well second-up
