Black Heart Bart Stakes 2022 Preview
Track: Soft Weather: Fine
There is a compact field of seven runners for the $125,000 Black Heart Bart Stakes with six geldings and one mare. There is one four-year-old, 4 six-year-olds and 2 seven-year-olds. Four of them are first-up after a break of 11 weeks or longer, and all runners have won previously at this track. Chris & Michael Gangemi have two runners.
The early favourite is Resortman who won the Listed Farnley Stakes last start and the Listed Idyllic Prince Stakes the start before. Second favourite is It’sarayday who resumes here after 13 weeks and has won 3 from 3 first-up. Third favourite is Comes A Time who hasn’t missed the quinella at his last 10 starts and is on a seven day back-up. Cup Night is back from a 19 week spell and has won his two recent trials. The other runners are currently 10 to 1 or longer.
2022 Black Heart Bart Stakes Runner by Runner
1. Money Matters (3)
One of two runners for trainers Chris & Michael Gangemi. Resumes from an 11 week let-up and has an excellent record at this track. Has won one of 6 first-up starts. Prefer others.
2. Cup Night (1)
Drawn the inside barrier this seven-year-old is back from a 19 week spell and has won his two recent trials. Has won three of 10 first-up starts. Jockey Patrick Carbery won this race on Machine Gun Tom in 1999. Don’t dismiss.
3. Resortman (5)
He has had 5 starts this campaign, all in Listed races, and has won three of them. Won the Farnley Stakes last start and the Idyllic Prince Stakes the start before. One of the main chances.
4. Comes A Time (6)
Incredibly consistent runner who hasn’t missed the quinella at his last 10 starts. He is on a seven day back-up after a narrow win in the Nicopolis Stakes last start at this track and distance. Jockey Paul Harvey won this race on Storm Shot in 2002. Should be in the finish.
5. It’sarayday (4)
This four-year-old Winning Rupert gelding is the youngest runner this year. Trainer Simon A Miller has won this race before with Platinum Rocker in 2013 and Meteoroid in 2017. It’sarayday resumes here after 13 weeks and has won 3 from 3 first-up. He gets the blinkers on for the first time. Jockey Brad Parnham won on Local Legend in 2006. Can get the job done.
6. Notorious One (7)
The second of the Gangemi runners. First-up from a 13 week spell he placed at a recent trial. Has won 2 from 4 first-up starts and shouldn’t be far away. Jockey Clint Johnston-Porter won this race on Stageman in 2020. Place chance.
7. Universal Pleasure (2)
The only mare in the race. She has won her last two races at this track and goes well on soft going. Jockey Steven Parnham won this race in 2016 on Lite’n In My Veins. Not the worst.
