Race 8 at Rosehill on Saturday 24th September 2022.

The Golden Rose is a Group 1 1400 metre set weights race for the three-year-olds that is run by the Australian Turf Club in September. It is normally run at Rosehill during the Spring.

You can read more about the race history, lead-up races, and past winners on the Golden Rose page.

Golden Rose 2022 Preview

Track: Soft-Heavy   Weather: Partly Cloudy with a shower or two

Seventeen runners have accepted for the $1,000,000 Group 1 Golden Rose and there has been one early scratching. The Godolphin stable, Chris Waller Stable and the Gary Portelli stable have two runners entered each whilst the rest of the trainers have just one entry each.

In Secret has opened as the early favourite at $2.70. She is a deserved favourite following her stunning win in the Run To The Rose, becoming the first filly to ever win the race.

Golden Mile is on the second line of betting at $5.50. The stablemate of In Secret won his race on the same day in the Ming Dynasty and it was done in an equally impressive fashion, saluting by 3.5 lengths.

Jacquinot is on the third line of betting at $7.00. He brings a different form line after his dominant display at Caulfield in the McNeil Stakes. He is no stranger to running the Sydney way of going, having done so last preparation.

Golden Rose Runner by Runner

1. Daumier (7)

Was a strange old run in the McNeil Stakes and he has since trialled at Hawkesbury adequately. Drawn well but he is going to need to improve dramatically to salute here.

2. Best of Bordeaux (1)

SCRATCHED

3. Jacquinot (5)

Dominant win in the end in the McNeil Stakes, winning by 1.5 lengths. Trialled since at Randwick nicely and with the decent draw, he will make his presence known.

4. Sejarden (8)

Poor on return in the Run To The Rose. Can’t have him here.

5. Political Debate (13)

Another who was poor in the Run To The Rose and would need to majorly improve to be a factor here.

6. Promitto (2)

Dwelt at the start of the Run To The Rose by 2 lengths before finishing off adequately. Drawn nicely and gets Nash back aboard. Will love the rain coming.

7. Golden Mile (11)

Brilliant winner of the Ming Dynasty, winning by 3.5 lengths impressively. Has drawn well here and should get a nice run throughout. Already proven over 1400m but the rain is the question mark. Stable is in form and he should run a big race.

8. Brosnan (17)

He is entered for Moonee Valley on Friday night, will probably head there due to this draw. Ran okay in the Ming Dynasty. Blinkers go on again. Prefer others.

9. Sebonack (9)

Entered for Sandown on Sunday as well. Ran credibly in weaker grade last time out. Can’t have.

10. Basquiat (12)

Was no match in the Ming Dynasty. Will appreciate the extra distance. Can’t have.

11. Fast Witness (10)

Smashed the line in the Exford Plate at Flemington. Handles all conditions but will be giving them a start, but should settle a touch closer than last start. Could run a bold race.

12. Millane (4)

Ran a solid 1.6 length third when racing three wide. I can’t have him here.

13. Zou Tiger (15)

Can’t have after his effort in the Ming Dynasty.

14. Fireburn (16)

Ran some solid sectionals in the Run To The Rose and meets the winner better off at the weights by 2.5kg. Drawn horribly and will need some luck, though second up last preparation she improved dramatically and won the Golden Slipper. She is a big chance with even luck.

15. She’s Extreme (6)

She ran a solid third in the Furious Stakes on a day where it was hard to make ground. She finished 3.8 lengths back after coming from eighth, so its definitely a pass mark first up. Up in distance suits and the draw is good. Could run a big race.

16. In Secret (3)

She is a deserved favourite following her win in the Run To The Rose but James Cummings has publically spoken about trying to avoid the rain-affected tracks. They may just get that on Saturday but she is all class and gets the world’s best jockey back aboard from a nice draw. She will be in the finish.

17. Paris Dior (14)

Pass mark for her run in the Furious Stakes. Will need to be better here.
