Maribyrnong Trial Stakes 2023 Race Details
Race 2 at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday the 7th October 2023.
The Maribyrnong Trial Stakes is a 1000 metre set weights race for two-year-olds run by the Victoria Racing Club in early October. It is held at Flemington as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Maribyrnong Trial Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Fine
The early scratching of Alaa Plenty leaves a field of nine first starters for the Listed Maribyrnong Trial. Godolpin colt Blue Illusion was impressive winning his recent jump out and is a logical favourite with Jamie Kah booked to ride. Royal Hill is one at big odds that could surprise here. He has jumped out well and it is often an advantage for the two year olds to be drawn close to the rail.

1 Alaa Plenty – SCRATCHED
Son of Shalaa trained by Moody and Coleman. He’s finished second in two jump outs and looks professional enough but hasn’t seen the straight.
2 Blue Illusion
Godolphin colt. We’ve only seen him once publicly but there was plenty to like about his performance. Lead and extended under very little pressure and gets J Kah for this first up assignment. He looks the one to beat.
3 Bodyguard
Team Snowden galloper. Was a close up second in a Randwick trial. In the mix.
4 Centre Square
He has jumped out well enough and has been well supported early. Zahra / Maher & Eustace are a dangerous combo.
5 Cerons
Was second in Newcastle trial. Market says no.
6 Dublin Down
Ran home well to win a trial at Ararat with a good gap to third and gets D Lane. Each way chance.
7 Royal Hill
Did well to reel them in over 650m in his first jump out and then showed some real style in his latest one here. $51 seems big odds.
8 Wolfgang
Has come up second favourite. Looked good accelerating away in a 650m jump out but how much weight do we give that? Has since trialed up the straight where he finished third. Nice enough effort.
9 Altermatum
Beat Wolfgang home in a jump out here. He comes up $23 and Wolfgang comes up $4.4. Can see why Wolfgang is shorter, especially given Wolfgang carries J McDonald; however, the difference in price seems excessive.
10 Immortal Joy
Was third behind favourite Blue Illusion in his most recent jump out. Thought that effort was okay, and he gets Michael Dee. Overs?
