Track: Good Weather: Overcast

There is a full field of 16 runners plus 4 emergencies that have accepted for this years race. There are 9 four-year-olds, 4 five-year-olds, 6 six-year-olds and interestingly one that shows as a three-year-old (in a race for mares 4YO & up) that was foaled on 6 April 2019, and therefore qualifies. Trainers Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr), Tony & Calvin McEvoy, Peter & Paul Snowden and Chris Waller all have two runners each. Three runners are  sired by Sebring, two by Frankel and two by Testa Rossa.

Three runners had their last start in the G2 Stocks Stakes over 1600m on 23 September, three in a 1400m mares races at Caulfield on 17 September, three in 1400m mares race at Sandown Hillside on 25 September, two in the G2 Let’s Elope Stakes over 1400m on 10 September, two in the G2 Golden Pendant over 1400m on 24 September and two in a 1400m BM 78 at Sandown Hillside on 25 September. The other five runners came via different races.

The early favourite is Roots who has two wins in Sydney from her last two starts. Second favourite is third emergency Cap De Joie who has had two wins and a 2nd from three runs this campaign. Third favourite is Foxy Frida who was runner-up in this race last year and was 1.2 lengths 4th in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes last outing.

Elusive Express was 0.1 length 2nd in the Stocks Stakes. Daisies was the Stocks Stakes winner. My Whisper has won 4 of her 8 starts, while Dynasties is expected to run well second-up. The other runners are currently $20 or longer, including last year’s winner Sirileo Miss.

Ladies’ Day Vase 2022 Runner by Runner

1.  Daisies (17)

One of two runners for Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr). She was a narrow winner of the Stocks Stakes last start. Badly drawn but one of the main players.

2. Elusive Express (15)

Was 0.1 length 2nd in the Stocks Stakes. Jamie Kah sticks with her and she won this race on Sovereign Award in 2020. In the mix.

3. Sirileo Miss (8)

Last year’s winner. Faded to finish five lengths off the winner last start at Flemington when resuming, but has excellent second-up statistics.

4. Steinem (10)

Resumed for last of 14 over 1400m at Flemington. The extra distance will suit better. Can surprise.

5. Belle Plaisir (3)

One of two runners for Tony & Calvin McEvoy. Resumed for 3.4 lengths 7th in the Testa Rossa. Usually needs the second-up run.

6. My Whisper (13)

One of two runners for Peter & Paul Snowden. She has won 4 of her 8 starts, but has disappointed in her 2 runs this campaign. Looking to others.

7. Foxy Frida (11)

Finished runner-up in this race last year. Ran 1.2 lengths 4th in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes last outing. Gets blinkers on for the first time. One of the chances.

8.  Chaillot (18)

Ran 3rd in this race in 2020. She resumed after a 19 week spell for 4 lengths 11th on the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes. Drawn very wide and prefer others.

9. Dynasties (7)

Will be fitter for her first-up 10th in the Golden Pendant.

10. Saigon (16)

One of two runners for Chris Waller. Started favourite last start and ran 3.2 lengths 3rd over 1400m at Caulfield. Not the worst.

11. Adele Amour (6)

Resumed for 8th over 1400m at Caulfield. Prefer others.

12. Night Passage (9)

First race at Caulfield and prefer over 1400m.

13. Ocean Miss (14)

Looks safely held.

14. Starring Role (5)

Hasn’t run for a while. Looking to others.

15. Uniquely (1)

Drawn the inside barrier. First attempt at Group level. Looks unlikely.

16. Roots (2)

The 2nd of the Waller runners. She has two wins in Sydney from her last two starts. Has 4 wins from 9 starts, but 3 of those were on soft going. Will shorten if rain arrives.

17. Savonia (20)  – 1st Emergency

This mare has won 2 of her last 3 starts and is a rough hope if she gets a start.

18. Cuban Link (19)  – 2nd Emergency

One first-up over 1200m after a 45 week break, then finished 5 lengths back in the Let’s Elope Stakes. Prefer others.

19. Cap De Joie (4) – 3rd Emergency

The most lightly-raced runner with only 5 starts. She won two in a row at Bendigo before 2nd at Sandown Hillside. Will be very competitive if she manages to get a start.

20. Glory Bound (12) – 4th Emergency

Unlikely to get a start.
