Coongy Cup – 2022

Track: Good Weather: Fine

With the winner receiving entry into the Caulfield Cup there is plenty on the line. Gunstock returned in excellent fashion. It was always going to find the trip too short but hit the line hard and has Jamie Kah sticking in the saddle. Yonkers looks hard to beat on a dry track and absolutely loves racing here. Glint Of Hope needs to lift this prep but has a touch of class while Paternal brings in the strong NSW form and is looking for a dry track.

1. Yonkers (3)

Suited by the dry track and loves racing at Caulfield. James Mcdonald get the perfect draw and he couldn’t be in any better form. 3 wins from 6 goes on the track and 2/2 over this track and trip. Yonkers looks nicely placed in this field and will take some holding out.

2. Buckhurst (9) — SCRATCHED

Pulled up with issues fresh. Classy galloper but the stable are in a mighty cold patch in VIC at the moment so happy to avoid.

3. Pondus (8)

Found the trip too short fresh but has run in the quinella 4 times from 5 tries 2nd up. Nearly all career wins have come at this stage of its prep. Keep very safe.

4. Milford (6)

2/2 over this track and trip and should enjoy getting back onto a drier surface. Looks the one currently overlooked by the market given it hasn’t had much go right this prep and now gets conditions to suit.

5. Johnny Get Angry (4)

Can’t have.

6. Glint Of Hope (1)

Has to lift. Has only been fair this prep but should be ready to peak over the 2000 and Moor did splice through from barrier 2 to score its last win. If the gaps open at the right time it can take this out.

7. Media Award (2)

Not much luck fresh. Is 1/1 over this trip and fitter second up. Prefer other form lines but respect any late market moves.

8. Aurora’s Symphony (12)

Needs to lift. A dry track may spark improvement but has to find more.

9. Paternal (7)

The danger to Yonkers and bring in some strong NSW form. Suited onto some drier ground and is 1/1 third up. Waller places them well so it deserves big respect here.

10. Thought Of That (11)

The stable print money over these staying trips. Hasn’t won for a while but flies third up and Ethan Brown can take it straight to the front. Can win.

11. Prix De Turn (5)

Last seen on a good track winning at $26 so Prix De Turn looks a massive hope in this race. Merterns has options from the draw and its form only reads poorly because it has struck wet tracks so far this prep. Big chance.

12. Dadoozdart (10)

Tough horse to catch with a poor record here and prefers wet tracks. Can’t have.

13. Gunstock (13)

Returned super over a trip short of its best. Kah sticks and Gunstock is 1/1 over this track and trip. This race looks a target and it has been well tried in early markets for good reason.
