Thousand Guineas – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Showers

Eleven fillies are set to go around in Wednesday’s $1,000,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas.  How the track plays and how much of the predicted rain arrives during the afternoon could go along way to determining this race…  As it stands Peter Moody’s Boogie Dancer is the favourite at around the $3.50 mark with most of the online bookmakers.  The Kiwi She’s Licketysplit is on the next line of betting with Gai Waterhouse & Adian Bott’s North Star Lass.

1. Russian Conquest

Ran on strongly in the Jim Moloney to be beaten less than half a length in a bunched finish.  Can settle closer in the run from barrier 1 here.  Sure to have fans with J Kah in the saddle, especially if the rain stays away.

2. Revolutionary Miss

Was very good at both Caulfield starts as a two year old, winning one and running second in the Group 1 Blue Diamond at the other.  Has finished off okay at her last two.  Dryer the better for her.

3. She’s Licketysplit

Blinkers went on last start at Flemington and she owned them in the Manifold thanks to a gun ride from D Lane.  Drawn to get a similar run again here.  One of the chances.

4. Boogie Dancer

Has progressed quickly from winning a Donald maiden in June to be the Thousand Guineas favourite.  Her last 50m at the Valley two back was exceptional over an unsuitable trip, she then blew them away here three weeks ago on a wet ground.  Draws to get a similar run again here and nothing suggests to me that she won’t run out a strong mile.  Top hope.

5. North Star Lass

Arguably brings the strongest form lines in here having finished third in the Group 1 Flight Stakes in Sydney at her last start.  She is rock hard fit and if there is no disadvantage to be leading on the day she can be in this for a long way.

6. Waltz On By

The second of Peter Moody’s runners.  Won the Jim Moloney narrowly last start.  Should get a good run in transit from barrier 3 for Craig Williams.

7. Madame Pommery

Was a good second in the Tea Rose two starts ago, then may have had excuses in the Flight Stakes last time out when soundly beaten.  Write off Waller & McDonald at your peril!

8. Moko

Interesting runner.  Seven start maiden trained by the Freedman’s.  She was well supported in the Manifold last start despite being beaten in a synthetic maiden first up.  Worked home okay in that.  Group 3 and Listed placed on Heavy 10’s in the Autumn.  Wouldn’t shock to see her run top 3 here if the rain does arrive.

9. Jenny Jerome

Was a narrow second to race favourite Boogie Dancer in a Donald Maiden back in June.  Ran the fastest last 200m in the Jim Moloney going back to the inferior section of the track.    Loved her through the line in that.  Best roughie in the race?

10. Tajneed

Connections paid the late entry fee which indicates a level of confidence about this filly.  She won well on debut at Sandown, then was a good third in the Edward Manifold.  D Oliver goes back on.  Each way chance.

11. She’s Pretty Rich

The rank outsider of the race.  Hasn’t had much luck at her last two starts.  Will handle wet ground.  First four chance at a huge price.
