There is a field of 12 runners for the $150,000 Canberra Guineas with 10 fillies and 2 geldings. Eight of them won their last start. Two runners had their last start in the Guineas Preview over 1400m at Canberra on 24 February, while the others all came via different races. Trainer David Pfieffer has 2 runners.

The early favourite is Wolverine who ran 2nd in a Group 1 race in New Zealand last year. Second favourite is Kimberley Secrets who won the SERA Country Championships at Moruya last start. Third favourite is Smooth Sailing has raced twice for 2 wins. Ningaloo Star won over 1200m at Canterbury last outing. Capital Asset won over 1350m at Wyong, while Avebury has a win and a 2nd from her last 2 starts. All other runners are currently $15 or more.

Ran 2nd in a Group 1 race in New Zealand last year, and was only 1.6 lengths behind the winner in the Group 1 Surround Stakes at her latest start. Serious player.

2. Kimberley Secrets (4)

Won the SERA Country Championships over 1400m at Moruya last start. Has 4 wins from 6 starts and looks well placed here.

3. Capital Asset (1)

Won over 1350m at Wyong last outing. In the mix.

4. Clear Choice (5)

Won a Newcastle maiden over 1400m by 2.4 lengths at only her 2nd start on 25 February. Could surprise.

5. Ningaloo Star (9)

Won over 1200m at Canterbury last outing and won over 1200m at Newcastle the start before. Going for the hat-trick. Place chance.

6. Avebury (11)

Has a win and a 2nd from her last 2 starts. Each way hope.

7. Shalook (7)

Has won at wagga then Albury at her last 2 starts, This is much harder, but don’t dismiss.

8. Smooth Sailing (2)

Has raced twice for 2 wins. Don’t think she can win this but she can place.

9. Bindi’s Choice (8)

Was a big winner of a Kembla Grange maiden at her 3rd outing. Rough place chance.

10. Lady Percival’s (3)

Won a Newcastle maiden over 1200m at her 7th start. Looks tested.

11. Offspring (6)

Finished 2nd in the Guineas Preview over 1400m at Canberra on 24 February. Local horse that could show up.

12. Region Time (10)

Ran 3rd in the Guineas Preview. Will find this hard.
