2021 Winx Guineas Race Details

Race 7 at Sunshine Coast on Sunday 11 July 2021.

The Winx Guineas is a 1600 metre set weights race run by the Sunshine Coast Turf Club. It is held in late June or early July and is the feature race of the meeting.

This meeting was originally scheduled for Saturday 3 July but a heavy rain event caused it to be postponed to Sunday 11 July.

Winx Guineas 2021 Preview

Track: Good Weather: Fine

Following the early scratching of Maestoso, there is a field of 16 runners for the $175,000 Winx Guineas with three colts, seven geldings and six fillies. Seven runners had their last start in the TL Cooney 3YO Plate over 1350m at Ipswich on 19 June and four in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic over 1600m at Eagle Farm on 12 June.. Trainers Tony Gollan and Kelly Schweida both have two runners. Three runners are sired by Sebring, two by So You Think and two by Spill The Beans,

The early favourite is Rogue Rocker who has won all three races this campaign and gets the blinkers on for the first time. Second favourite is Dzsenifer who has two wins and four places from seven starts and was 3rd in the Cooney last outing. Third favourite is unbeaten filly Palaisipan who was won four from four.

Tumbler Ridge has won four of his 16 starts and was 4th in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas over 1600m three starts back. Our Playboy gets well back in his races so the extra distance may suit him. Glitter Strip was 4th in the Gunsynd Classic. Not An Option finished well back in the G3 Fred Best Classic last outing but has won a trial since. Meg has won her last two races at Wagga and Rosehill, while Without Thinking won at this track and distance before 6th in the Gunsynd Classic last start. All other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.

2021 Winx Guineas Runner by Runner

1. Tumbler Ridge

This Spill The Beans colt has drawn the outside barrier. He has four wins and five places from his 16 starts and was 4th in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas over 1600m three starts back. One of the chances.

2. Our Playboy

A Sebring gelding with three wins from 13 starts. Won the Group 3 Vain Stakes back in August. Gets well back in his races so the extra distance may suit him

3. Magic Conqueror

One of two runners for Kelly Schweida. Only managed 8th in the Gunsynd Classic.

4. Not An Option

Finished well back in the G3 Fred Best Classic last outing but has won a trial since. Barrier 15 is no help.

5. Cracker Essgee

Won 4 in a row at Townsville and Mackay before fading for 2.5 lengths 8th in the TL Cooney. Might find this tough.

6. Batangas Entry

Hasn’t won beyond 1200m and this may be too far.

7. Mob Buster

Has two wins at this track and ran 3rd in the Gunsynd Classic. Rough hope.

8. Rogue Rocker

Has won his last three starts with two wins at the Gold Coast and one at Sunshine Coast. One of the main chances.

9. Without Thinking

Won at this track and distance before 6th in the Gunsynd Classic last start. Wouldn’t surprise to see him place.

10. Better Lad

Has finished in the back half of the field at his last three starts and not expected to be in the finish.

11. Dzsenifer

She has two wins and four places from seven starts and was 3rd in the Cooney last outing. Goes well second-up and is a key player.

12. Glitter Strip

Drawn perfectly in barrier 1. She was 4th in the Gunsynd Classic and has claims.

13. The Actuary

Has gone well at this distance range but she might find this to tough.

14. Palaisipan

This So You Think filly has won all four of her starts. She was a narrow winner of the TL Cooney last start beating many other horses in this race. Should fight out the finish.

15. Meg

She has won her last two races at Wagga and Rosehill and could show up here.

16. Gunmetal Girl

Coming back in distance from the 2000m Group 2 The Roses in May where she finished 9th. Not the worst.
