Toy Show Quality 2020 Preview
Track: Soft Weather: Fine
There were 11 acceptances for the $160,000 Toy Show Quality but with the early scratching of Witherspoon there will be 10 runners. All of them are either five or six-year-olds, and seven of them are resuming from a spell. The early favourite is Adelong who has six wins and two second=places from her 8 starts. Second favourite is topweight Sweet Deal who has already won two Group 3 races, including the Triscay Stakes by 2.3 lengths in February. Third favourite is Seasons who has a solid record of 4 wins and 3 places from 7 starts.
Invictus Salute goes well at this distance and won a recent trial. Yamazaki normally runs well first-up, while River Bird has won first-up once before. Evalina has been competitive in Group 1 races in New Zealand. Musical Genius has won 6 of her 18 starts and has a nice light weight here. Zaniah and In Good Time are currently 40 to 1 or longer.
2020 Toy Show Quality Runner by Runner
1. Sweet Deal
She resumes here after a 19 week spell and is fit after multiple trial runs. She already has two Group 3’s on her resume with the Tibbie Stakes over 1400m at Newcastle, and the Triscay Stakes over 1200m at Randwick. One of the chances.
2. Evalina
This I Am Invincible mare has been racing in New Zealand and is having her first run for a new trainer. She won a Newcastle trial recently and should be ready to go.
3. In Good Time
She has been racing through the winter and won the Listed Ascot Handicap at Eagle Farm two starts back. She has not won or placed at Randwick in 3 starts there, and this looks too strong.
4. River Bird
This Epaulette mare is a good wet-tracker if the rain comes to Sydney. Rough chance.
5. Yamazaki
She has only won 4 of her 25 starts and finished last of 16 in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes before spelling. She resumes after 19 weeks and has had two trials. I don’t expect to see her in the finish.
6. Adelong
With six wins and two second-places from eight starts, this mare is well above-average, This is her first attempt at a Black-type race but I’m sure it won’t be her last. She won three races over this distance in May and June and has trialled after a 10 week break to get her ready for this. I fully expect this mare to win.
7. Seasons
She resumes from a 22 week spell and normally goes well when fresh. She was second in a Randwick trial on 11 August and is one for the multiples.
8. Witherspoon – SCRATCHED
9. Invictus Salute
Although she has not been placed in three first-up runs before, she has trialled well and looks ready to go. She could place here.
10. Musical Genius
At her last two starts she ran 2nd over 1000m at Sunshine Coast then 2nd over 1200m at Eagle Farm. She can handle slow and heavy going and is having her first start for a new trainer. Could run a place.
11. Zaniah
She has finished in the back half of the field at both starts in July and this looks too tough.
