2020 Silver Shadow Stakes Race Details

Race 4 at Randwick on Saturday 22 August 2020 is the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes.

The Silver Shadow Stakes is a 1200 metre set weights plus penalties race for three-year-old fillies run by the Australian Turf Club at Randwick. It is held during August on Winx Stakes day.

Silver Shadow Stakes 2020 Preview

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

There are 10 fillies vying for the $200,000 Silver Shadow Stakes and 8 of them are resuming from a spell. The early favourite is See You Soon who finished 2nd in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes and 3rd in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes in the autumn. Second favourite is Dame Giselle who was the winner of the Percy Sykes Stakes and has gone well in two lead-up trials. Third favourite is Redoubte’s Image who has had two starts since resuming for a win and a second and has the advantage over most of the field of having raced on heavy going.

Kaakit Akit has only had 2 starts but won her maiden race by 1.3 lengths. September Run won two races in a row before a 12 week spell. Thermosphere has two wins from 5 starts and placed in one of two recent trials. Philizzy resumes after 18 weeks and won at Randwick on debut, while Miss Canada has had two starts since resuming and won a Newcastle sprint on 13 August. Fall On A Star and Hybrid Theory are currently 40 to 1 or longer.

2020 Silver Shadow Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Dame Giselle

She resumes here after a 19 week spell and has a career record of 2 wins and 2 places from 6 starts, including a win in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes in March. She has had two trials and will be hard to beat.

2. Thermosphere

Last campaign this filly went from a win a Newcastle maiden straight to a win in the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes, before finishing well back in the Golden Slipper. She returns after 22 weeks and has placed in one of her two trials. One of the chances.

3. See You Soon

She had 3 starts last campaign for a close 2nd in the Reisling Stakes, 8th in the Golden Slipper then 3rd in the Group 2 Percy Stakes Stakes. She is back from a 19 week spell and is strong first-up. Should fight out the finish.

4. Philizzy

This Snitzel filly won over 1150m at Randwick at her first start then went straight on to run in Group races, where she acquitted herself well. She has had two trials after an 18 week break. Not the worst.

5. September Run

At her third start she won a 1200m maiden at Canterbury Park then won the Listed Bill Carter 2YO Fillies Plate over 1110 at Doomben in May. She has had a 12 week let-up and is going for a hat trick. She is one of the chances in this race.

6. Redoubte’s Image

She won first-up after 19 weeks, then was narrowly beaten as the favourite over 110m at Warwick Farm on 12 August. Both of those runs were on heavy going and she is one to put in the exotics as she is capable or running well here.

7. Kaakit Akit

This filly has only had two starts, winning on debut then running 11th in the Magic Night Stakes. She led in both those starts and is now resuming after 23 weeks and has trialled well. She is an each-way hope.

8. Miss Canada

At her 5th start she won a Newcastle Maiden Plate over 900m on 13 August. That will give her confidence but this is a big step up.

9. Hybrid Theory

Back from an 18 week break she had had 2 trails but is likely to find this too tough.

10. Fall On A Star

She has had 3 starts and is the only maiden in the field. She came 6th in the Magic Night Stakes at her last outing before the spell, but looks safely held.
