McEwen Stakes – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

Where to look? Chances from top to bottom with The Inferno looking nicely placed coming out of some very strong races last prep. Rothfire is getting close to being back to his best and can give this a shake. Away Game is as honest as the day is long and can run a race from the draw, In The Congo has undeniable claims and the 2nd behind Mazu reads outstanding and Coolangatta has trialled like nothing will be beating it. Wouldn’t want the T.V off for this one.

1. The Inferno (2)

Won this race last year. Has the right form for this race, maps well and proven at the track. Last spring ran in some very good races and does have the turn of foot to beat these. The $13.00 is well over the odds in this.

2. In The Congo (7)

Should take a power of beating here with Zahra to steer. The tactics should be straight to the front on a track that suits just that. Form around Mazu & Big Parade reads well for this race and In The Congo will be very hard to hold out.

3. Rothfire (4)

Good to see Rothfire some what back on track but he still isn’t at his best. Was only 3 lengths off Alligator Blood & Private Eye not far off so that does look the right kind of form for this race however I still want to see Rothfire win one again before considering.

4. Zoustyle (3)

Smart galloper that flies fresh. Respect any market moves however I am leaning towards the better chances in the market in this, especially given the form Damien Oliver is in and the map set up.

5. Away Game (1)

As honest as the day is long, my issue with Away Game is the map from barrier 1 and its recent strike rate. If Away Game can splice a gap through the pack it is capable of taking this out however luck in running will be needed. Capable but the map looks tough.

6. Semillion (6)

Prefer others.

7. Coolangatta (5)

Trialled absolutely outstandingly and the stable is one you can trust. The form around Fireburn reads well and Coolangatta looks to have come back even better from the looks of its recent work. Leaning to In The Congo for price reasons however have to throw large respect to the favourite in this who will take some holding out.
