Chautauqua Stakes – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

A wide open race with the market being lead by the resuming Corner Pocket. It is 4/4 over this trip and unbeaten at Moonee Valley. Declan Bates takes the steer and he knows the horse very well. Prince Of Boom couldn’t make it 4 straight last prep when pulling up lame and gets the in form Craig Williams. Ranges will just need luck from the draw to be shooting home and Age Of Chivalry gets the services of Jamie Kah and a nice draw.

1. Sinawann (13)

Good hope in this at odds with an outstanding 2nd up record. The map is tricky but if the pace is on up front Sinawann can run over the top of these.

2. Catalyst (16)

Keep an eye on the market. Has had a long time off but is capable.

3. Oxley Road (10)

A long time between runs for Oxley Road when starting well in the market and having no luck when caught wide. Hard to know where the fitness levels are at but does have ability. Good enough to take this out.

4. Ranges (1)

Its just the map here for Ranges that concerns me but if Zahra has it within striking range it will be hard to hold out but the gaps will need to open with its running style.

5. Wandabaa (4)

Needs another win and is waiting for the rain. Honest type but prefer others.

6. Age Of Chivalry (3)

5 from 28 is the query about Age Of Chivalry but it does have the right running pattern to give this a shake. Kah is a solid booking so this is a winnable race.

7. Corner Pocket (7)

2/2 at the Valley, 4/4 over this trip, 8/10 with Bates aboard. Corner Pocket ticks boxes and just needs even luck from the draw to take this out. Its record last prep was a little mixed but it was in much harder races than this. Goes close.

8. Prince Of Boom (14)

Has an abundance of ability and really put it together last prep. The map and draw makes things difficult but an in form jockey is ideal.

9. Ranch Hand (18)

Has a stack of talent and can win this, barrier 18 will be difficult but with any luck, Ranch Hand is absolutely good enough to take this out.

10. Aysar (6)

Can’t have.

11. Felicia (8)

Needs another win, prefer others.

12. Enchanted Heart (5)

Honest mare but I would prefer it in something easier.

13. Calypso Reign (11)

Continues to win and while this is a decent leap in grade, you can’t knock winning form. Kelly will land it somewhere near the speed and Calypso Reign holds no fears for any rain that may come.

14. Lavish Girl (9)

Has talent, keep an eye on the market.

15. Gravina (12)

No jockey booked so Gravina may be scratched. Won first up last prep then was a little tricky to catch. Should appreciate soft footing and brings in strong form. Can win.

16. Holbein (15)

Prefer others.

17. Kallos (2)

Returned well behind the talented Extremely Lucky. No jockey booked yet but the map and draw are both ideal. Has class and can win.

18. Poland (17)

Went off the boil last prep.
