Hinkler Handicap – 2022

Track: Good Weather: Fine

Quality field engaged with Ranch Hand leading the market coming off a strong win. Some query on its consistency but a repeat effort of its last start sees it very hard to beat. Written Beauty is ultra consistent and maps to perfection while Tycoonist was terribly unlucky last start and just needs the breaks to go close. Edit has been frustrating to catch but has a turn of foot that can put this race to bed. Tempo should be just fair.

1. Tycoonist (8)

Desperately unlucky last run when held up for a long time. I am expecting the tactics will be get into open air at all costs. Tycoonist is racing in career best form and should be hard to hold out.

2. Southern Lad (9)

Was runner-up in this race last year. By no means the punters pal but should be suited getting onto a drier surface and this race is within reach. Considering the strike rate of others in this race I am looking elsewhere but Southern Lad wouldn’t completely shock.

3. Blondeau (12)

Huge finale last start and suited being drawn out wide. Blondeau is the kind of horse that needs the breaks to be winning but looks well placed this field.

4. Greyworm (2)

Needs to lift on current form, can’t have.

5. Ranch Hand (5)

Explosive win last start. Ranch Hand can mix its form but its best is right up there in terms of ability and a repeat of last start sees it in the finish. Top 4 player.

6. Tumbler Ridge (1)

Another that mixes its form but has the turn of foot to win this race. Keep an eye on the market moves and how the track is playing. If the inside isn’t off Tumbler Ridge can win this.

7. Written Beauty (4)

Racing well and very much suited by swapping barrier 18 for barrier 4. The map looks ideal and an in form William Pike takes the steer. Hardest to beat in this race.

8. Ranges (7)

Going along well but some query at this level. Can win but I prefer others.

9. Shaquero (3)

Should get the lead quite easily in this and that could be enough to pinch the race. Huge chance in this and considerably over the odds at the moment gun the map.

10. Simply Fly (6)

Has been mixing its form and would prefer to see it lift before considering.

11. Mass Destruction (10)

In the mix and the booking of Jamie Kah is a positive one. Has a running pattern that requires luck but is classy enough to take this out.

12. Edit (13)

Hard to beat with any kind of luck. Has a shocking racing pattern but I have always been a massive believer of the talent Edit has. With even luck and a well timed run he has the ability to run over these and $26 is good odds considering he was 5 lengths behind Eduardo a few starts back.

13. Mariama (11)

Superb run last start and can land on the speed and give a kick. In the mix against these.
