The George Main Stakes is a 1600 metre weight-for-age race run by the Australian Jockey Club at Randwick. It is held during September and is the feature race of the meeting.

George Main Stakes 2020 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Cloudy
There is an elite field of seven runners for the $500,000 George Main Stakes. Three of them had their last start in the Group 1 Winx Warwick Stakes over 1400m on 22 August, three of them had their last start in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes over 1400m on 5 September and the other in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m on 5 September. The early favourite is five-year-old mare Verry Elleegant who has already won four Group 1 races including the Winx Stakes when first-up last start. Second favourite is Avilius who won this race in 2019, and resumed for 1.2 lengths in the Chelmsford Stakes. Third favourite is Dreamforce who was runner-up last year and won the Group 2 Tramway Stakes last outing.
Star of the Seas put in a terrific effort for 0.1 length 2nd in the Winx Stakes when resuming. Imaging was 4th in the Winx Stakes after being checked on more than one occasion and deserved to be closer to the winner. Kolding finished 0.3 length 2nd in the Tramway and looks as if he will like the extra 200m. Colette won four consecutive races last campaign, culminating in the Group 1 Australian Oaks. She needed the run resuming when 2.2 lengths 10th in the Tramway Stakes and expecting a sharp improvement.
