Jim Moloney Stakes 2020 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Late Rain
Twelve three year old fillies are set to line up in this years $140,000 Jim Moloney Stakes – Thermosphere has already been scratched. The untapped Mozzie Monster is the early favourite, she has been very impressive in winning two mid week races. Next in the betting are Aidensfield and Agreeable, both of these fillies come through the Atlantic Jewel at Moonee Valley.
Melba Storm was impressive in winning a Sale maiden and takes a big step up here. A Pinch of Luck has raced well on the synthetic but can she transfer that form onto the turf? Hindaam and Malicorne also come through country maidens, both won well and its not unusual to see lightly raced three year olds measure up in town at this time of year.
2020 Jim Moloney Stakes Runner by Runner
1. Thermosphere – Scratched
2. Aidensfield
The winkers go on for Aidensfield second up. Unbeaten in her first campaign she returned well to run a good second looping the field in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes at Moonee Valley. She raced on the speed in his first preparation and was unbeaten in doing so, there looks an opportunity to be forward in this race from the wide gate with little speed on paper. A major player.
3. Café Rizu
Fought on well for a narrow victory at Flemington. A few knocks on her here, back in distance with 40 days between runs and the form out of that race looks questionable. The positives are the stable is flying and D Oliver sticks.
4. Mozzie Monster
Mozzie Monster has had two starts for two very impressive wins. She was backed off the map at her Cranbourne debut where she put her rivals away with ease and then went to Bendigo in a strong Benchmark 64 and came from back to again win convincingly. She loses jockey Jamie Kah for this who has ridden her perfectly in her two starts to date but gets a good replacement in Ben Melham who is riding in top form.
5. Silhouette
Silhouette has done all her racing in Sydney to date. Is first up here and is yet to tackle a field with this much quality. Last in a recent barrier trial. Respect the Godolphin team but hard to recommend her as bet off what she has done thus far.
6. Agreeable
One of the favourites for the Thousand Guineas. Loved her run first up in the Quezette Stakes. She was solid second up over the 1200m but looked like she was crying out for 1400m which she gets here. Likely to be back close to last from a wide gate, look for her finishing strongly.
7. Malicorne
Did a good job to win a maiden at Kilmore. This is a big step up though and surprised to see her as short as $15 in early markets.
8. Yes Baby Yes
Was a victim of a bottomless Moonee Valley track last start but her form before that was in inferior company to this.
9. A Pinch of Luck
She started her career in July with a dominant synthetic win at Ballarat and then went to Sandown on a turf track and on face value was disappointing. Back to the synthetic surface last start she closed well on a leader biased track. Need to see her again on the turf before recommending.
10. Melba Storm
Loved her last 100 winning a Sale Maiden First Up – the horse that ran second to her in that bolted in at Echuca on Thursday. Should find a good spot just behind the speed for Willie Pike. Expecting her to run well.
11. Redeel
Very respectful of the Michael Dee and Price/Kent Combination but hard to recommend coming off two synthetic runs. The latest one she had a good run and only worked to the line fairly.
12. Hindaam
She resumed with a very impressive win at Pakenham Synthetic putting a big space between her and her rivals. Hard to know how she fits in here but is from a leading stable.
13. Odeum
Finished 5.5 lengths from the winner in the Atlantic Jewel. Will need to improve many lengths to be winning this.
