There are 13 fillies for the 2023 Ethereal Stakes. Three of them had their last start in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes over 1600m at Flemington on 7th October, three in a 3YO BM64 Handicap over 1600m at Moonee Valley on 6th October (won by Konasana) and two in the Oaks Trial over 1800m at Flemington on 24th September, while the rest came via different races. Two runners are sired by The Autumn Sun.

The short-priced early favourite is Tropical Squall who has 3 wins from 4 starts including the Group 1 Flight Stakes at her latest start. Second favourite is Autumn Angel who finished 3rd in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes last start. Third favourite is Konasana who comes off a win over 1600m at Moonee Valley. All other runners are currently $12 or longer.

She has 3 wins from 4 starts including the Group 1 Flight Stakes over 1600m at Randwick at her latest start. Has the speed to overcome her wide draw. Winning chance.

2. Dolphin Skin (13)

Drawn the outside barrier and has struggled in both runs so far this preparation. Blinkers come off for the first time. Looking elsewhere.

3. Coco Sun (8)

One of 2 runners sired by The Autumn Sun (the other is Autumn Angel). Chased solidly for 4 lengths 6th in the Edward Manifold and might like the 2000m. Place chance.

4. Autumn Angel (3)

Finished 3rd in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes last start behind Griff who has since gone on to win the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas last week. She looks well suited up in distance and back against her own sex. One of the main chances.

5. Konasana (7)

Comes off an all-the-way win over 1600m at Moonee Valley last start, and was a close 2nd in the Oaks Trial the start before. Looks to be competitive here.

6. Grinzinger Belle (2)

Ran 3rd behind Konasana last start. In the mix.

7. Basilinna (11)

Chased steadily for 8th in the Edward Manifold. Prefer others.

8. Wings Of Song (9)

Chased hard the entire straight to finish 0.2 length 2nd behind Konasana at Moonee Valley last start. Improving type.

9. Bon Mistress (5)

Ran on strongly to break her maiden at Geelong last start. This is a big rise in class.

10. Saxon Beauty (1)

Drawn the rails. Won a Wodonga maiden 2 starts back, then was 2.9 lengths 6th in the Oaks Trial. Not the worst.

11. Another You (4)

Still a maiden. This looks too tough.

12. Everlasting Kiss (10)

Ran 3rd in the Oaks Trial at her 2nd start. Rough place chance.

13. Lady Tempest (6)

Still trying to win a maiden. Not here.
