Doncaster Mile – 2022

Track: Heavy Weather: Showers.

Twenty-four runners have accepted for the $3,000,000 Group 1 Doncaster Mile with four of those being emergencies and there have been no early scratchings. The Chris Waller stable, Annabel Neasham stable, Joe Pride stable, and the Mick Price/Michael Kent Jnr stable are all saddling up two runners each in the event whilst the other stables only have one entry each.

Forbidden Love has come up as the early favourite as she aims for four wins on the trot after saluting nicely in the Guy Walter, Canterbury Stakes, and the George Ryder. Next in the market is the Victorian visitor I’m Thunderstruck came from the rear with a big run but was no match for Zaaki in the All-Star Mile.

Rounding out the top three in betting is Converge who saluted well in the Randwick Guineas before stepping up to 2000m in the Rosehill Guineas and being no match for Anamoe.

1. Cascadian (18)

Unlucky to not finish closer in the All-Star Mile. Usually thereabouts at this track and distance. Will need luck from the gate.

2. I’m Thunderstruck (8)

Won’t mind the going here and sticking to the mile suits. Drawn ideally and is a massive chance.

3. Private Eye (22)

Blinkers go back on. This is the grand final day for him but they have drawn poorly. It won’t shock me if he wins here, but he will need luck.

4. Dalasan (5)

Can’t have it on the recent form.

5. Lighthouse (23)

Coolmore Classic winner. Drawn horribly but handles the conditions and can run a big race. Needs luck.

6. Laws of Indices (4)

Much more improved last start. Drawn well, loves the conditions and it isn’t the worst.

7. Ellsberg (6)

Beaten by rival Just Folk in the Ajax Stakes. Drawn well and looks to take hold of the race with little speed. Could take catching.

8. Inspirational Girl (19)

Yet to run on the heavy. Ran on well behind Zaaki last start. Drawn poorly and will need luck.

9. Hungry Heart (11)

Can’t have being 49 days between runs and on the heavy.

10. Icebath (9)

Was flat two back and raced wide without cover last start behind Zaaki. Drawn well, no weight and handles the conditions.

11. Sky Lab (1)

Wide throughout a week ago over 2000m when running fifth. Handles the conditions and is drawn barrier 1. Will need luck due to the map.

12. Kissonallforcheeks (7)

Missed a key run last week due to Rosehill being abandoned. Can’t have it despite a nice draw.

13. Numerian (2)

Will love the conditions and won’t know itself carrying 51kg. Drawn ideally and could be a smokey at a big price.

14. Hilal (16)

Can’t have.

15. Brutality (17)

Quick back-up, blinkers back on. Draw will make it hard for him.

16. Forbidden Love (14)

In form mare looking for four in a row. Enjoys the conditions, maps well, and gets Jamie Kah aboard. Huge chance.

17. Just Folk (10)

Missed a run due to the abandonment of Rosehill. Will love the conditions and the mile looks okay.

18. Kiku (20)

Quick back-up from Monday. Drawn horribly.

19. Mr. Brightside (21)

Came home well behind Zaaki last start despite being held up at the 400m. Unknown on heavy but loves soft. The draw is not ideal and will need some luck.

20. Converge (3)

Back to a mile suits and the draw/map is ideal. New jockey on due to weight. Can run well.

21e. Bankers Choice (15)

Can run a race if given a start.

Can’t Have.
