Carbine Club Stakes 2022 Preview

Track: Heavy Weather: Showers.

Ten runners have accepted for the $200,000 Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes and there have been no early scratchings. The Chris Waller stable is saddling up two runners in the event whilst the other stables only have one entry each.

Straight Aaron has opened a dominant favourite after a solid second placing first-up behind Loch Eagle at the Warwick Farm midweek meeting, beating the rest of the field by six lengths or further.

Flying Crazy and Jalmari are joint second-favourites, who have contracting form lines. Flying Crazy is coming off a nice win in the Canberra Guineas with a brilliant ride by Keegan Latham whereas Jalmari ran a solid fifth in the Ajax Stakes which was better than it looked to the eye.

Carbine Club Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Flying Crazy (2)

Brilliant win in the Canberra Guineas but unknown on this surface. Drawn well. Good chance.

2. Jalmari (3)

Ran some slashing sectionals against much better opposition. Drawn ideally and looks to handle the surface. A similar run will go close here.

3. Straight Aaron (10)

Loved the first-up run on the heavy going. The mile will suit though he may give them a start from the draw. Top chance.

4. Kelvedon Road (6)

Handles the heavy going but jumps majorly in class. Place chance.

5. Field Legend (7)

Unlikely to run as it ran at Canterbury on Wednesday.

6. Gulf of Saros (4)

Solid Class 1 winner at Hawkesbury on soft ground. Tough ask but will give them something to catch.

7. Devil Racer (9)

Won well in a maiden race at Canterbury. This is much harder but looks as though the ground is no issue. Place.

8. Dark Rebel (8)

Outclassed.

9. Sweet Ruby (5)

Had excuses last start. Prefer others.

10. Cap Estel (1)

Back from a Group 1 try. Placed chance.
