Bel Esprit Stakes – 2023

Track: Good Weather: Clear

Nine runners have accepted for the $175,000 Bel Esprit Stakes to be run at Listed Level.  We get to see the return of Invincible Caviar here – the daughter of champion sprinter Black Caviar.  She has won four from six and is on the second line of betting behind Katsu who has returned in super order winning both starts impressively this campaign.  The South Australian visitor Taunting is the other horse under $10-1.

1. Pintoff

Is a horse who has appeared to have had some issues over the journey but resumed for the new camp with a nice win this track and trip on May 6.  Will need to run to a new peak to be winning this.

2. Esta La Roca

Speedster who resumes off a short break.  Has a great record this track and distance (two wins from three starts).  Can run a place.

3. Sartorial Splendor

Is on the quick back up after a good run at Flemington last week at a price.  Maps for a nice run.

4. Taunting

Was a good winner at Oakbank two back, then not disgraced on very heavy ground at the Bool.  Jessica Eaton comes over from South Australia for one ride which indicates some confidence from her/ the stable.

5. Starry Legend

Drops 5kg on last run.  Think they probably try and kick up and hold the lead.  Not sure he’s going that well.

6. Invincible Caviar

First up.  Daughter of Black Caviar.  Has won four of six but this is clearly her toughest test to date.  Barrier 2 looks sticky.  Would have preferred her drawn out with more room to move.

7. Katsu

Resumed with a dominant win at Sale, then was heavily backed and won comfortably here last start.  Drops 4.5kg for this.  The Begg and Childs combo flying and he looks the one to beat.

8. Mouse Almighty

Outclassed.

9. Prairie Fire

Underrated galloper but this looks a little tough.  Place at best.
