There is an elite field of nine runners for the $1,000,000 George Main Stakes. Three of them had their last start in the Group 1 Winx Stakes over 1400m on 21 August, three of them had their last start in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes over 1400m on 4 September and the other three in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m on 4 September. Chris Waller has 4 runners as he did in 2020 when they were the first four home, and Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott have two runners. There are six geldings and three mares.

The early favourite is Verry Elleegant who has already won eight Group 1 races and resumed for 2nd in the Winx Stakes. She was favourite last year too when she finished 4th. Second favourite is Think It Over who won the Chelmsford last start with the best last 800m race sectional. Third favourite is 2020 winner Kolding who finished 1.8 lengths 9th in the Winx Stakes last outing after being held up.

Cascadian finished 0.5 length 5th in the Winx then 4th in the Chelmsford.  Hungry Heart won two Group 1 races at the end of last campaign and resumed for 1.8 lengths 8th in the Winx. Riodini was caught on the line to finish 2nd in the Chelmsford. Star Of The Seas  was runner-up in this race last year and finished 3rd in the Tramway last start. Lion’s Roar finished 9th in the Tramway, while Shout The Bar finished 5th.

1. Kolding

One of four runners for Cris Waller this six-year-old Ocean Park gelding won this race last year and has won 11 of his 32 starts, with 6 of those wins being at this track.  Finished 1.8 lengths 9th in the Winx Stakes last outing after being held up. He is one of the main chances again.
