Thousand Guineas Prelude – 2021

Track: Soft? Weather: Showers

Ten three year old fillies are set to line up in the $300,000 Thousand Guineas Prelude and none of them met at their last start.  Anthony Freedman & Sam Freedman have two runners.  The early favourite in the betting is Heresy.  She is third up here after running well at Group 3 level at her last two starts.  The second favourite is Morioka.  She finished third in the Bill Carter Stakes in May and strips fitter after finishing third at Randwick Kensington first up.

Xtra Gear impressed breaking her maiden at Geelong last start and maps to get a soft run in transit from gate three.  Elusive Express and Devout Hero both performed well against the older horses at their last start.  Scorched Earth has two wins from her six starts.  Ancient Girl has been met with early support.  Throntari won well at Wangaratta on debut.  Daisies hit the line hard at her debut in a Mornington maiden, while Bon’s A Pearla is currently the only horse in the race over $20-1.

1. Heresy

Godolphin filly who clearly brings the best exposed form into the race.  She closed off very strongly first up in the Quezette, then wasn’t beaten far against the boys in the McNeil Stakes.  Comes back to fillies grade here.  The one they have to beat.

2. Scorched Earth

On pacer from the John Moloney yard.  She was good first up in the Quezette Stakes, then finished sixth at the Valley last start.  First try 1400m is a query for me.  Consider her for multiples.

3. Morioka

Impressed running third in the Bill Carter at Doomben in May before being sent for a spell.  Returned at Randwick Kensington on September 1 where I thought she was only fair after being heavily backed in the betting.

4. Bon’s A Pearla

Eye catcher in a Geelong maiden two back before breaking her maiden at Sandown Lakeside last start.  Maps well.

5. Elusive Express

Daughter of Jakkalberry who has a win and a second from her career two starts.  Latest she tackled the older horses on a very heavy track at Bendigo where she fought on well to finish second.  The rise to 1400m and the extra fitness is a plus.  Each way claims.

6. Xtra Gear

Xtra Gear ran well to finish second behind the very smart daughter of Black Caviar – Invincible Caviar – in fast time on debut.  Then was heavily backed  at Geelong last start and dually saluted.  Capable of measuring up.

7. Devout Hero

Profiles similarly to the other Freedman horse Elusive Express.  Good debut winner then ran well against the older horses at start two.  Hard to split them but take note Damian Lane hops off Elusive Express to ride this one.

8. Ancient Girl

Daughter of Turn Me Loose.  She boke her maiden on debut at the Ballarat Synthetic track, then fought on well after being stuck three wide in a high rating benchmark 64 at Sandown.

9. Throntari

Was a stylish Wangaratta winner at her only start.  Brett Prebble goes aboard for this.  Knock out chance.

10. Daisies

Was doing her best work through the line on debut at Mornington on September 9.  She finished fourth there in a high rating contest.  Wouldn’t shock to see her run a big race here out to 1400m at star two.
