The winner of the Reisling Stakes is exempt from the ballot for the Golden Slipper. Seven fillies that have won this race have gone on to win the Golden Slipper.

The race was first held in 1973 as a Principal Race called the Reisling Slipper Trial over 1200m at Rosehill Gardens and was won by a filly named Favourite Girl. In 1980 it became a Group 3 race then was upgraded to the current Group 2 status in 1986. In 2008 it was run at Canterbury, It continued at Rosehill up to 2014 and then from 2015 onwards switched to its current home of Randwick.

The race is held on the same day as the Todman Stakes which is the equivalent race for two-year-old colts and geldings

Interesting trivia: 1991 winner Bold Promise is the dam of 1996 winner Merlene. 1985 winner Beach Gown is the dam of 1997 winner Rose Of Danehill. 1987 winner Midnight Fever and 1988 winner Startling Lass are sisters by Luskin Star from Trim Girl.
