Ottawa Stakes 2020 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

Fourteen runners have accepted for the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes.  Single Tail and Autumn Rose have been scratched.  Fake Love is the early favourite in an open race.  She lead in the Debutant Stakes at Caulfield and kicked clear to win by over a length.  Tempest Charm missed the start on debut at Moonee Valley but charged home to run third.  She looks a talented filly.

Dosh is one of five debutants left in the race.  She sped around Caulfield to win a recent jump out in good time.  Naples finished third to Fake Love on debut and was making good ground from back in the field.  Nice for What and Lovin’ Feelin’ are both on debut and are trained by the powerful Maher/Eustace stable.  Butter Blonde won a Bendigo Maiden and we have already seen the horse that finished third come out and run well in the Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington.

Ottawa Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Fake Love

Jump and run type who impressed winning the listed debutant stakes at her home track of Caulfield 4 weeks ago.  She is one of the main chances again here.

2. Tempest Charm

This filly hit the line hard from the back of the field on debut after missing the start.  Most of the races early on that day were dominated by horses settling in the first few which adds merit to her effort.  She looks to have good talent and can factor in the finish.

3. Mortal

The blinkers go on this daughter of Star Turn.  She ran a solid fourth in the Inglis at Moonee Valley and she will have the advantage of having seen the Flemington straight as she is trained here.  Many of these won’t have.

4. Cloudy

Damian Oliver takes over the reins on Cloudy.  She was a distant third on debut in what looks a strong race.

5. Naples

Made up good ground from back in the field at Caulfield behind Fake Love.  Not out of it.

6.  Butter Blonde

Lead and won a Bendigo maiden.  We have since seen the third horse in that race come out and run well in the Maribyrnong Plate on Tuesday.

7. Desired

Desired jumped to the lead and showed a good turn of speed to kick clear ofher rivals away at Murray Bridge.  She will need to improve to feature here but she appears to have talent.

8. Autumn Rose – SCRATCHED

9. Dosh

Dosh showed nice speed to lead and win her jump out.  That jump out was the quickest time of the morning and we often see two year old races won by those horses close to the speed.

10.  Fabrikka

Has had two jump outs in prep for this.  In her latest one she sat wide and powered down the outside to win comfortably.

11. Lovin’ Feelin’

Finished fourth in a Caulfield jump out.  The blinkers go on and Jamie Kah is booked.

12. Nice for What

Was as strong as anything through the line in her jump out and she was under a tight hold from the jockey.  She is from a leading stable and has a leading jockey in Hugh Bowman.

13.  Paper Dragon

Finished second in a Ballarat Synthetic jump out.  Doubt that is good enough to win here.

14. Single Tail – SCRATCHED
