Red Roses Stakes – 2020

After the scratching of Joviality fifteen runners remain in the field for the $200,000 Red Roses Stakes.  Written Beauty dominates the early betting after two impressive wins to start this her second preparation.  She looks a very impressive filly in the making.  Minhaaj has run third at both starts since spelling and looks ready to peak here third up with the blinkers on.

Chianti comes down from Sydney – she has had a month off since running second to race favourite Written Beauty at Canterbury.  Amuri is having just her third start but was a dominant winner after finding the front at her second start in Adelaide.  Bella Nipotina was caught wide at Moonee Valley and stuck on really well to not be beaten far by Portland Sky who has been competitive with many horses in this race.  Marboosha finished third first up and looks a progressive type.

1. Letzbeglam

Has finished fourth in both runs this time in.  Think she lacks the talent of some of the better ones here but she will try hard.

2. Bella Nipotina

Has won just the one from eleven starts but she is better than her record suggests.  At her latest run she stuck on bravely to finish second at Moonee Valley after sitting three wide for the entirety.  Each way.

3. Mildred

Mildred comes through the Red Anchor Stakes at Moonee Valley.  Hard to see her turning the tables on Bella Nipotina based on that run but she is already a winner of two races down the Flemington straight.

4. Minhaaj

The blinkers go on for Minhaaj third up.  She has not been far away from September Run in both runs this preparation and that form was franked with September Runs impressive win in the Group 1 Coolmore on Saturday.  She has a terrific each way chance at around $8-1.

5. River Night

Finished second to Bella Nipotina first up but has struggled in two subsequent runs.

6. Written Beauty

This daughter of Written Tycoon has won three of her four races.  She was eased back to midfield at Moonee Valley last start and then swept down the outside to put a big space in her opposition.  She looks a group one talent and is clearly the one to beat here.

7. Standoff

Has had close to two months off since finishing towards the back of the field in the Cap D’Antibes.  Can’t recommend.

Beat home key rival Minhaaj two starts back and has run well at both attempts down the straight.  If you can forgive last run then he has an each way chance.

10. Celestine

Celestine was an impressive winner at her only try down the Flemington straight.  She was okay last start running second to Extra Time.

11. Highly Discreet

Liked her first up run behind the impressive Swats That at Moonee Valley.  She has been just fair in two subsequent runs.  Consider for the multiples.

12. Marboosha

Started second favourite and finished three lengths behind Written Beauty at Canterbury on October 5.  Barrier 1 looks a possible negative if they are going to the outside fence but should be considered for multiples.

13. Chianti

Finished second to Written Choice at Canterbury.  Looks well drawn in barrier 12 and D Oliver is booked.  Is one of the Each Way chances.

14. Either Oar

Has won two on the trot in provincial grade.  Craig Willaims is booked to ride but this is a big step up.

15. Zoushine

Zoushine was competitive in a couple of Adelaide black type races last prep.  Had every chance at Ballarat first up but was well held by the leader.

16. Amuri

The McEvoys thought enough of this filly to debut her in a strong edition of the Cap D’Antibes.  She was not disgraced there beaten 4.5 lengths.  She has since been to Adelaide and won a race by a big space.  Another with an each way chance.
