Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There have been 16 runners plus 5 emergencies accept for this years $2 million Magic Millions 2 yo classic.  Eight of these had their last start on the Gold Coast on January 9.  Four raced in the Gold Nugget and the other 4 raced in the Gold Pearl.  A further 3 come through the BJ McLachlan which was run at Eagle Farm on Boxing Day.  There are 7 last start winners in the race.

The early favourite for this years race is Swift Witness.  She was a convincing winner of the Gold Pearl by 3 lengths and were she to win it would be the fifth time Gai Waterhouse has won this race.  The second favourite is She’s All Class.  She put a space in her rivals in the Wyong Magic Millions but needs to overcome barrier 18 if she is to secure victory.  Alpine Edge has won both his career starts and has proven he can run out a strong 1200m.  Shaquero failed first up at Eagle Farm but bounced back to run second at the Gold Coast.

Ranch Hand was beaten as a short price favourite last start however the margin was only narrow.  He won well on debut.  Finance Tycoon has won 2 in a row but he has the outside barrier to overcome if he is to win.  Baby Wong has been performing well without winning – he gets the blinkers on for his grand final.  Fake Love is another with a poor draw but is a jump and run type from a leading stable.  The remaining runners are $20-1 or longer.

1. Alpine Edge

This son of Better Than Ready is unbeaten in his two career starts to date.  After leading all the way at Eagle Farm on debut he showed good versatility to be able to sit midfield and finish over the top last time out.  A major player.

2. Finance Tycoon

Unbeaten since the blinkers were applied.  I like that he has run and won already on this track.  The negative is the wide gate.

3. Readily Availabull

Impressive winner of the Ballarat Magic Millions in November.  Has since won a trial at Randwick.  Draws a nice gate for this.

4. Shaquero

Disappointed after starting short odds at Eagle Farm on Boxing Day.  Much improved effort last time when only narrowly beaten behind Finance Tycoon.  Can sit handy from barrier one and the Bowman booking is a positive.

5. Ghostwriter

Kicked off its career with a debut win at Doomben on October 24.  Well held last start behind Finance Tycoon.  Can’t recommend.

6. Baby Wong

This son of Press Statement has been close up at all 4 runs but is yet to win.  Perhaps the addition of the blinkers and the booking of Nash Rawiller can make the difference.

7. Mishani Scandal

Only win came at Toowoomba.  Outclassed.

8. Rambeau

Rambeau has shown speed out of the barriers at all 3 of his starts so expecting him to settle in the top 4 or 5.  But he needs to improve many lengths to be a factor here.

9. Fake Love

Fake Love was an impressive debut winner at her home track Caulfield in October.  She has since ran fourth at Flemington and second at Eagle Farm.  Barrier 20 looks a massive concern for her.

10. Mura Mura

This well bred daughter of Not A Single Doubt was purchased for $650,000 at the Magic Million Sales.  Yet to win but sees a good track for the first time which may help her chances.

11. She’s All Class

This Chris Waller trained filly was an impressive winner of the Wyong Magic Millions at start number 2.  She has had a soft trial in between runs and if James McDonald can find some cover from a wide barrier she is one of the major players.

12. Swift Witness

Gai Waterhouse is attempting to win her fifth Magic Millions with Swift Witness.  This horse bolted in by 3 lengths at his last start and has an advantage over many of these having raced at this track before.  Barrier 11 looks perfect.   A key winning hope.

13. You’ll Be Mist

You’ll Be Mist has won 2 of her 4 starts.  She is deep into her first preparation but has been given a month between runs for this.  A big winner last start and a knock out hope here.

14. Miss Hipstar

Another one of these with a wide gate to contend with.  She won her first two races from the front before getting a long way back behind race favourite Swift Witness last start.  Needs luck but not out of it.

15. Queen Of Wizardry

Hit the line hard to score at her only career start and is likely to be suited by a frantic pace.  Each Way.

16. Princess Bojack

Beaten a long way last start.  Not for me.

17. Ranch Hand

Won by 3.3 lengths on debut at Warwick Farm.   Then was upset as a very short favourite at Eagle Farm.  He is not out of this.

18. Ruby Kisses

Safely held behind Four Moves Ahead at Warwick Farm.  Needs to improve.

19. Mishani Enchanted

Finished 4.6 lengths from the winner in the Gold Pearl.  Looking elsewhere.

20. Win Burn

Win Burn finished off well to run second at her last start and she has the advantage of having had her last run at 1200m.    Knock out.

21. Glorious Ruby

Debuted in the Gold Pear running second after the punters backed her $201 into $61.  Looks unlikely to secure a run but a knock out chance if she does.
