Magic Millions 3YO Guineas – 2021

16 runners plus 5 emergencies have accepted for this years running of the Magic Millions 3 yo classic.  Smart ‘N’ Sexy and Lady Banff are early scratchings.  The main lead up race is the Vo Rouge Plate where 7 of them had their last start.  A further 3 come through the Gold Edition Plate including the 2 favourites.  3 others had their last start interstate.

The early favourite is Isotope.  She has won 4 of her 7 career starts including last start when she steamed home to win the Gold Edition Plate.  Away Game is second up on Saturday and will derive good fitness from her first up encounter with Isotope.  She will no doubt give Isotope something to catch again. Forbidden Love is both talented and consistent.  She has finished in the placings in each of her last 7 starts – 3 of these were wins.  Gotta Kiss gets along way back in her races but has a terrific turn of foot and if the stars align she is not out of this.   Apache Chase returned to the winners stall last start and maps to get a soft run from the inside barrier.  The remaining runners are $20-1 or longer.

1. Apache Chase

This speedy son of Better Than Ready won the Group 3 Vo Rogue plate at his last start.  He will sit handy in the run and make his own luck again.

2. Our Playboy

Let down like a really nice horse when he took out the Vain Stakes at Caulfield in August.  Since then he has completely lost his way.  Can’t recommend based on recent form.

3. Away Game

Outstanding return in the Gold Edition when only collared late by Isotope and there was a big margin back to third.  She will take plenty of improvement from that run and will settle handy in the run which is often a major advantage at Gold Coast.  A major player.

4. Yes Baby Yes

Yes Baby Yes finished down the track first up in Nudgee Stakes.  May be outclassed here.

5. Amish Boy

This colt acquitted himself well when finishing midfield in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.  He then had some time off and was only fair when resuming in a benchmark 78 at Randwick on Boxing Day.

6. Shooting For Gold

Shooting For Gold got too far back in the run last time so it may pay to forgive.  However he is up in class here and draws very wide.  He has a big task ahead of him.

7. Kavak

Kavak is deep into her preparation.  The booking of Nash Rawiller is a plus but doubt she is good enough to be in the finish here.

8. Aim

This Peter and Paul Snowden trained gelding struggled in the heavy going first up.  She will likely appreciate the firmer footing and it would not surprise to see her run an improved race.

9. Safework

Safework has a poor winning strike – it would shock to see her win.

10. Magic Conqueror

Started huge odds in the Vo Rogue and was never likely.  Not for me.

11. Mishani Fraudster

It’s been 6 runs since this gelding ran a place.  Likely to be 7.

12. Forbidden Love

Forbidden Love is a classy filly trained by Richard and Michael Freedman.  She was group 1 placed in the Empire Rose at Flemington before spelling.  She then won the Gosford Guinea’s when resuming.  Jim Byrne should be able to settle closer to the speed from barrier 4 and she has a great each way chance in the race.

13. Isotope

This daughter of Deep Field oozes class.  She won the Mode Stakes by 3 lengths and then last start went off a heavily backed odds on favourite.  She was badly held up on the turn but showed an electric turn of foot to pick up Away Game on the line.  All things being equal she is the one to beat again.

14. Smart ‘N’ Sexy – SCRATCHED

15. Gotta Kiss

Gotta Kiss has form around a number of good horses.  She gets back in her races and needs things to go her way but if they do she can get into a place late.

16. Lady Banff – SCRATCHED

17. Redoute’s Image

Ran third in a class 4 last start.  Would need to improve many lengths to be a factor here.

18. Starosa

Was a month between runs when finishing midfield in the Vo Rogue at her last start.  She is racing well.

19. Boomnova

This lightly raced filly has won her last 3 starts although this is much harder.  Knock out chance.

20. Ellsberg

Won a benchmark 72 at Rosehill by 4 lengths and then finished third at Rosehill last start.  Consider for the multiples if she gets a run.

21. Oscar Zulu

Enters this race third up after a third placed finish in the Vo Rogue.  Both her wins have come first up.
